My wife and I have a Ficus tree in our foyer that she wants pruned. I think it is beautiful as it is but she wants it to be smaller. I have never pruned anything like this before, and am looking for advice for how far down the branches should I cut off? I included a few pictures and I marked in red on the final picture where she suggests they be cut.

won't "hurt" it, although i'd only do one branch at a time, but my question is why she wants it cut back so hard? and, if you do decide to cut it back, i'd wait until you have new growth on the cut branch before you cut the next one. also, you do know you will have to keep an eye on it to prune it more regularly if you don't want it to get out of hand again.

I would definitely leave some green growth on each branch that is cut back. And Jiffy is right in that you should continually trim the tips of the branches in the future. So you can aim for a more pleasing shape and a fuller (more leafy) plant on a regular basis.

Hi to Tina, Jiffy Mouse and eldealero

Dont know if youve seen my post but noticed that you have a similar plant to mine - mine has bigger leaves though - will put on a pic if i can! as first time on here.

Dont know if any of you have any tips for me?

Eldealero I would like to recommend that you spray your plant with a mist of water every day as it will make your plant get more leafs.

As to pruning I have no idea

Jane
