I have a plant that has a few leaves that have very small brown/black specks on them. Most of them are the size of a pinhead. They are not insects. They seem to get slightly larger and spread to most of the leaf. These seem to occur mainly on the newer leaves of the plant. What could they be??

Do they hurt the plant or leave holes?

No, they don't leave holes in the leaves. They seem to be dead areas and i'm sure they probably do hurt the plant. Leaves that have not had this specks before, are starting to get them. Here is a picture of one of the newest leaves with the specks http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2n9icmt&s=5

have you tried rubbing the spots off with a mixture of diluted dish liquid? it looks like some kind of mold. more air circulation might help prevent new spots?
