One of my Hollyhocks that I thought had died now has new leaves coming up from the base. I guess all the warm weather we've had stimulated new growth. It seems they can die back completely and come back from the base. I originally thought the basal leaves were evergreen, and when those leaves disappeared, I thought it was dead.

Very cool, Alan. It isn't volunteer seedlings coming up? Many of the plants called annuals can and will live over here. And with judicious pruning they look as good in year 2 or 3. Congrats!

Not a seedling..it's attached to the old plant at the base where the old stem came up. Oddly enough, I have no seedlings, at least not yet. I made sure lots of seeds fell hoping to get some, though.

I did figure you would know the difference. I hope you get lot's of seedlings. And I hope they come up true to type for you. Or at least some wonderful crosses.
