Today I had a marvelous, self-indulgent plan. I was going to take a Real Nap. An in-the-bed-under-the-covers kind of nap.
But then I made the mistake of picking up the book I am reading. And I couldn't put it down. I kept telling myself to go to bed but I kept reading. I got up for a potty break but kept reading. I made my dinner and kept reading. I waited for Maxi to call and kept reading.
Now it is far too late in the day for napping. But I still have a little distance to go on my book.
I am reading "The Remains Of The Day." It is quite good.
So now I'm wondering, what is the last book you got totally lost in?

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
The last book I got lost in.....would be the entire Twilight Series. Right now I am reading two books, tho I am not lost in them...
"Global Warming: a scientific and biblical expose' of climate change" and "War of the Worldviews"
Merme...have you ever heard of www.goodreads.com ???? If you PM me your email address, I can invite you so that if you want to list the books that you have read/are reading, we can see each other's lists.
If you ever need a good book search place check out fantastic fiction. It's a WONDERFUL sight that lists every book you can imagine. My librarian got me hooked on it.
Right now I'm reading a book by L.J. Smith about the Nightworld---Vamps, Werewolves, Shapeshifters, Witches. It's pretty good. Classified like the twilight series as teen reading, but it's not really just for teens.
It has 3 books in it. Secret Vampire, Daughters of Darkness, and Spellbinder. Pretty good.
i like joan hess, sue grafton, diane mott davidson, and for heavier reading, patricia cornwell, dick francis, john d. macdonald (one of his books was "cinnamon skin") and others.
mostly i read light stuff these days when i read. anything too graphic puts me off. and if i can't finish it in one or two sittings, i forget to finish it and it irritates me. i'll ponder it and post more names tomorrow. i've read more than not of the mysteries in our libraries.

I have read all of Diane Mott Davidson's books (Goldy Schultz, right??)--I love them and am current on them----I have read a lot of sue grafton's but I have to make myself read them.
I read the first patricia cornwell book , loved it, however, when I got another one I had to force myself to read it--so no more reading her either---
I have a few of Joan Hess' books here---I really must get them out and read them----
have you ever read Marcia Muller's "Sharon McCone" series??/ They are good---a story going on behind the story so to speak--but for that reason one really should read them in order--- I am all caught up on those as well.
I do not care for the graphic ones either........

Noe I read the graphic ones... Koontz, Nora Roberts.. Stephen King... but right now I am reading The Time Travelers Wife, it is very good so far., kind of not my usual but even I get tired of blood and murder sometimess...LOL! My hubby says I am planning to murder him cause of what I read and cause I like to watch Forensic Files before I go to sleep at night... Nana
Jiffy I like John D McDonald also... particularly his titles!
If you like Sue Grafton, you would probably like Janet Evanovitch. She writes these great myserteries set in Trenton, NJ. Since most of my family is from Trenton, I can tell you she absolutely NAILS the cultural elements of that city... her characters are the people you would meet there. All of her titles have numbers in them such as "One For The Money".
Right now I'm into reading Victoria Holt whom I've not read since I was a teenager. She writes romantic suspense novels usually set in the 1700 & 1800's. It is easy reading and she always has happy endings!
Carol there are a slew of English mystery writers such as Christie. I like those also.

Nana, my husband has asked me if I'm planning on murdering him because I watch those wives who murder shows all the time. I told him just to do what I say and he'll be safe.
My book club read the Time Travelers Wife and everyone liked it except me. I tried to watch it when it was on TV and still didn't like it. Let me know when you're finished.
Merme, I'm like you. I used to read right before I went to sleep but then I wouldn't be able to put the book down and be exhausted the next day. When I read the Kite Runner I couldn't stop until I completed it.
I've discovered e-books. These are books that you download on to your computer and read ON your computer. You can also print them out if you want to use up ALL your ink and printer paper. Most books take only about 200 Kb on your drive, so that means that a Megabyte of Hard Drive space can hold 5,000 books! One Gigabyte of Hard Drive Space can hold 1,000 TIMES that many books,or in other words 5,000,000 BOOKS! You can have ALL the books from ALL the libraries on EARTH stored on your single home computer. I use Microsoft Reader or Adobe Reader to read my books. Give it a go!
Kingdoms RAGE and go to war...but the PEasants plant potatoes..
EARTH FIRST! (we'll strip-mine the OTHER planets later.)
Iris Johansen has a really good mystry series. The main character is a female forensic sculptor named Eve Duncan. I absolutely love that series! Another good mystery series is by Nevada Barr. Her main character is a female park ranger named Anna Pigeon that keeps getting mixed up in shady happenings. Nevada Barr was a park ranger herself before she started writting.
i read the shack. i have to say that i loved how it explained things. it is a very thought provoking book that will change your concept of how things are without making you feel bad for thinking how you do or how you will when you finish reading it.
i know that is very vague, but i don't want to give out anything about it. but i will say, it is one book that i will be buying for my personal library.
Thanks, Annette, for the information but I'm not looking for anything else new right now as I have a big stack waiting. I think Carol Jean was wanting information on mystery books, though. Well written mysteries, particularly if they include some humor & quirkiness can be very fun to read. I'll keep the authors you mentioned in mind the next time I've run out of fresh ideas.

I am reading a biography of Marie Antoinette. Although it is beautifully written, it makes me sad because of the end of the story.

Yep, I have read most of her books as well--but thanks for the suggestion

Carol ~ the above post was for Jiffy because she said she had enjoyed Sue Grafton. You had said you hadn't cared much for her books....

I wasn't suggesting Janet Evanovitch for you, my friend....
