I'm in zone 6B and I'm at 10,000 feet. Can I grow almond and hazelnut trees? The nurseryman I talked to didn't think so. He said he'd never seen any around here. Am I out of luck?

tk, check your elevation again, are you at the top of a mountain? there aren't many places that high.
Almonds have similar requirements to peaches, I'm not sure, but they should grow there, and hazelnuts have a wide range. I'm pretty sure both would do alright. Like peaches and apricots, almonds could be affected by late frosts...apricots are prone to those here, moreso than peaches, but I'm sure your zone would allow growing the trees.

I just found some info on hazelnuts in a catalogue, like some things, you need 2 varieties for pollination.

Oh yeah, the good thing is, it says all hazelnuts are disease free and pest free so there's no spraying!

I may have to see if I can find some rooted cuttings and try them out. Those aren't terrible expensive.
