Oh my, what a beautiful shot you have there of the gray Squirrel. And the starling, those irridesident colors reflecting in it's brilliant black feathers is so lovely. I can't recall seeing any of those here but I would sure love to. The House Fenches are one of my favorites and I wait every year for them to return and build their nest in my trees and bushes.
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.

That Squirrel visits three to four times a day and is getting more and more friendly I just finished getting some more pictures of him about four minutes ago.

That's why I LIKE that picture. The geometrically perfect patterns made by the nails.
Squirrels have paws as soft as velvet with nails like hyperdermic needles. Pleasure and Pain in one little hand!

Thorn what do they use the drastic nails for ?
Do they kill anything?
Nuts are dead.

The nails are used for climbing and digging.
I have seen actual photographs of a squirrel eating a bird that it caught and killed at a feeder. This is the first time I have seen this but I know that many rodents DO like meat so it shouldn't be THAT surprising. My pet rabbits like to eat Pepperoni from time to time.

Hubby calls the squirrel a rat.. They are crazy to watch.. I didnt know they eat birds.
My sister lived in Cleveland, used to feed squirrels.. One died, they had to have the city pick it up......It cost plenty .. Last time she fed squirrels.

Poor birds. Between my cat and the squirrels they don't stand a chance.
Pleasure and Pain in one little hand! That's a discussing for a different type of forum Thornius.
I know I saw on National Geographics a gigantic praying mantis eating a hummingbird. No one believes me but I don't drink alcohol or do drugs so it must be true.

I made the mistake of grabbing a LARGE praying Mantis when I was a kid about 10 years old. It split the web of skin between my thumb and index finger wide open! I STILL have a small scar there. Nevertheless, I LOVE Praying Mantises.

I like having them in the yard but I had no idea they are so vicious. The one I saw on the National Geographic Channel was really big.
