I took the liberty of tweaking one of Terry's photos to show the difference between a Fox Sparrow and a Song Sparrow. These two birds are VERY similar EXCEPT for the color. The two bottom birds in this picture are the two birds in question. The very bottom bird is the Fox Sparrow. The middle bird is the Song Sparrow. Notice the color difference. The patterns and markings are pretty much the same EXCEPT the FOX sparrow is a bright rusty orange, like a Red Fox (hence the name Fox Sparrow). The SONG Sparrow has the same markings but his are colored a rich milk-chocolate brown, (Mmmmmm, CHOC-O-LATE!). The top bird is a Dark-Eyed Junco, also called the Snowbird.
