hey Thorny,
I HAVE A QUESTION:

I have a woodpecker that has taken a liking to a maple tree in our backyard. problem is said tree is only about 2 inches around. Will the holes kill my tree, and is there a sealer or something I can spray on the little holes to help ???

Sounds like a Sapsucker and it shouldn't hurt your tree at all. No sealer necessary. The holes will seal themselves.

I had always heard that woodpeckers would kill trees too but then I started hearing that it's not true. Wonder who started that terrible rumor?

OH my, One little wood pecker. I really should post my pics. We live in the woods on a river, and we have tons of wood peckers. All the varieties. Downeys hairys, red headed, red bellied, and the glorious Pilated. The downys are a bit of a pain, We live in a log home, so they think its a tree. They are always all over it. I fed abundant suet all winter, and a few weeks ago when the snow left, I used up the last of the suet and did not put more out. Well you would have thought I was a criminal. LOL about 20 downeys sitting on the ground where the feeder had been pecking the ground for scraps. Well I broke down and bought peanuts. I am a sucker. LOL I only do not like when they go after the hummer feeders. I have yet to figure out how to keep them away. They have a sugar fettish! I will try and post some of my pilated. clap They are just awesome.

Those are an awesome bird and you got a great shot.
I am not sure what kinds of woodpeckers we have here. But there are a couple who love the metal light standard we have nearby. They peck at it and it sounds just like a cell phone is ringing. I got used to the sound. But you can see other people walking by and start patting at their pockets. It is amusing.
