I had TWELVE in my oak tree about 4 hours ago! I got pictures of 3 of those. I'll post them in a sec. One landed by my front porch yesterday and I got pictures of it. They are nicknamed, "The MOST Handsome Bird in North America".

TODAY

These are BAD quality. The birds were far away and I was shooting against the bright sky which is ALWAYS a photograph killer.

They are gorgeous birds, angelblossom. I like your second shot with 6 birds in it. Do they have a pretty song?

I counted 40 or more Waxwings across the street from my house just now, along with 3 pairs of bluebirds and all the usual suspects, PLUS, I heard a Pileated Woodpecker in the distance. I did not have my camera, but I WILL when I go back tomorrow.

I saw my first Cedar Wax Wings today at 4:30pm CST. I am trying to post a picture, but I am having a hard time doing that. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ooooh you caught them in the Holly trees! That's what they're eating this time of year. In May they will switch to Mulberries. AND....You got one with the tip of red wax on its wing. GOOD JOB!

Small flocks of them have been flying over my house all day. I finally caught some perched in the tall Oak tree in my side yard but they pictures aren't going to be very good.

Once the holly berries are gone they go away from here. They hit my holly bush first...they are working on the holly tree in my next door neighbors front yard and then they will go to the one in their backyard. I just get to see them for a few days... :0(

I wait all year for the waxwings to come. Here they are a true sign of spring. The first year I saw them there were only 4 but this year there were 20+. The come and stay as long as there are holly berries on the tree. A SAD NOTE: The hawk that frequents the area got one and I found gray feathers tipped with yellow- tail feathers, all over the yard.

I have hawks around Here Too,, I've Notice Within Seconds after the finches and other Birds Fly off suddenly a hawk appears, shock

One day I found a Grackle torn to shreds In my yard it had to have been done by a hawk , it only left a section of the head( eye) some feathers and a leg zoink

The Cedar Wax Wings are still here,,

STUNNING! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! That's what I'm talking about; huge Pirahna-like flocks of Waxwings, moving as a single organism, rather than multiple individuals. They can strip EVERY berry off a large tree in minutes if need be.

They hit my Mulberry trees for the FIRST time this year TODAY. A flock of about 30 Waxwings, hissing and passing berries back and forth. Here is MY best picture today. You can CLEARLY see the red wax deposit on the tips of the wings on this fellow.

Thorn, I've always said Monroe, NC is behind in fashion. Guess that goes for birds too cuz I've got 9 big hollies on the hill in the front, which will be cut down by the State this week to make room for the new road, and every berry is gone. Maybe since they are my waxwings and am behind the times in what is fashionable they are too. They even ate the berries off my nandinas.
