I really just joined for tips and tricks about helping my plants grow and maybe graduate from Pothos, Arrowhead Plants, Spider Plants and African Violets.

The African Violets are the fussiest plants I grow. I usually get them to bloom once every couple of years.

I ended up losing many of my plants to moving so I'm rebuilding my plants right now. I've done cuttings from my pothos, arrowhead and spider plants.

Forgive me if the rest is not germane to this group.

I've added two real baby jade plants to my collection and I'm wondering I've processed the information I've read from the forums about them correctly

1) fast draining soil
2) overwatering bad they like to get dry between watering
3) shallow roots = overwatering?

Right now I need to repot them I think I've got them in normal potting soil but clay pots so I don't know if that equals out or not.

Now I've read in the different forums that they love going fairly dry between waterings and that if you frequently water them their roots get shallow. Would that mean that until I move them into a faster draining soil I should water them from the bottom like my African violets? (I let them sit in a tray of water for about an hour then take them out to their normal saucers)
I normally let all of my plants go appx 7 days between watering but no more than 14 days.

Welcome. The jades will do best with watering the soil around the base of the plant, not soaking for an hour. And you need to let the soil get really dry not just an inch or so down below the surface. So every 14 days might be good for them. If your jades have not objected to the soil you have them in don't change them now. They dislike being transplanted a lot. But when it is time to transplant due to size, go with a cactus mix if you can.

Okay thank you for the advice. The Jades are growing they are sprouting little side shoots. I think I might just spend this weekend taking photos of my plants so I can share.

I wonder if I'll get a spanking for reviving a dead thread just to say "Hey, I'm in Portland, Oregon too!" when I'm merely here for tech support (and the only thing I've ever grown is a bell pepper and a potato!)
