I've had some very nice crops of Sun chokes in my garden AND some wonderful artichoke relish, but I've been thinking of growing some true artichokes and wonder if I can grow them stateside. I'm in Vietnam right now and see these wonderful artichoke plants and it makes me want to grow some. My garden is in Northeast South Carolina. Anyone out there with artichoke experience?

Yes, They can be grown in most of the US.

Treat artichokes as annuals in cold climates. In milder regions, cut the plants back in mid to late fall. In zones 8 through 10, they should need no winter protection. In zones 4 through 7, cover each plant with an inverted bushel basket and mound pine needles or leaves on top.
Buy them at your local nursery or start seeds 8-12 weeks before your last frost date.
