We summer at our camper. It is a small campground but we share. None of us have a lot of room and last year I HAD to buy something from a grand daughter some of you know how that goes....so since I didn't really need anything I bought the hanging tomato and strawberry bags....we didn't start seeds but just bought plants. We got quite a few tomatoes off of them but not as many as we should have.Watering it was the biggest problem. We found we had to water it every day and if we couldn't because we were gone just one day and they really got stressed.
What I am asking is does that stuff that soaks up water (I don't know what it is called) and holds it, would that work in the hanging plants? Or even any potted outdoor plant?
I know she is going to come around again and I really would like to try strawberries too.
Thank You.....
Janet

The gel that soaks up water and releases it does work. It helps a lot in my desert area.
Miracle grow has potting soil with it already inside. Or you can buy it at places like home depot and add it yourself. (Or get a new disposable diaper or two and raid the unused innards for some in a pinch)

I'm glad you asked this question. I have a hanging tomato thing that I'm trying this year.

You could also try a gravity feed system ...when I go on vacation I use milk jugs with some clear small piping "air pump line" from the pet store ...the trick is getting the hole in the lids small enough I just turn the milk jug on its side and above the plants .....place the loose end in the soil .....I have even been able to get multiple leads off one jug ........hillbilly I know but keeps me from having someone in and out while I gone....

I try to take one day at a time -- but sometimes several days attack me at once.
