About 3 years ago, I bought a very small ornamental grass to put in a small garden on "the other side" of my driveway. I didn't know how much it would spread, but it really seems to like the spot it's been in, and got waaaaaaaaaaaaay too large for it, taking over a good portion of the center of that garden.

Today I cut that plant back - I had thought I'd be able to lift the entire plant and divide it, but that wasn't going to happen, so I took several pieces of it from around the perimeter. I then transplanted those pieces under 2 trees in the front yard, with the help of my husband digging out all the holes in the roots of the trees.

Here are the 4 pieces that I put around a pine tree. This tree was planted by the original owners of our house - it had been a "live" Christmas tree that they then planted outside. A few years ago we had to remove many of the dead lower branches, and I'm hoping these grasses help fill in underneath the tree. The pot will be filled with impatiens again this summer.


This area is under another tree that the original owners planted next to the steps that lead up to the front walk. We also had to lift up the dead lower branches and it's been bare underneath for a few years. I'm hoping that once again, these ornamental grasses will do the trick.

I think the grasses will look great when they are all grown up around the trees and right now they will look nice with a bit of color between then as you said you were going to do.--There will be photo's as time goes on right ????
