I'm in the middle of building my cold frame! :) I'm super excited!!! I have everything but the lid put onto it and right now I'm taking a short break from digging to put some poo into the bottom. I had to stop to look for something online because I found these weird looking things in the dirt. ....GRUBS! ICK! They are creepy looking! So now I have to figure out what to do about those. Anyways, I am taking some pictures as I go and will post them later. :) I'm sooooooo thrilled!

OK, here are my pictures. The only thing I haven't done to the frame yet as far as building is to put a handle on the lid and to put the piece that will hold the lid open for ventilation in place.

The frame built, but not in place

Wow, not only functional but beautiful too, Jenn. Good job. You will get early veggies and late ones too. Awesome job.

Thanks everyone. I'm really very pleased with it. I kept the lid down this afternoon and evening to see what kind of heat it would gather. The lid went down maybe about 3:45 and I opened it at about 7 to see how warm it was in there. So, it only got afternoon sun...maybe 2 1/2 hours worth and at 7 it was warmer inside the frame. Not a HUGE difference between outside the box and inside, but I could feel the difference with just my hand being put inside the box after opening the lid.

If the weather is decent enough tomorrow during the morning (if I can get myself out of bed at 7 when Luke wakes up the first time) then I will put some horse poo/compost into the bottom of the box. I guess I will need to buy some soil for the veggies tho because I don't want to use the soil that I dug out. While the soil was really nice soil...LOTS of huge worms in it and a good color, there were grubs in there and I don't think those would be good to have in the frame with growing veggies. I'm assuming they would eat the root systems of my plants.

Phooey. I'm at my school that doesn't allow me to view certain pictures and I want so bad to see your pictures. I'll have to wait until I get home.

I hate that you've got grubs when you've got lots of worms in your soil. Grubs are bad. Wonder if you can treat the dirt for the grubs and not hurt the worms.

I don't know. I'm doing some research today since it is rainy and I can't do any work outside that I wanted to.

lol

Jenn that looks really great! Hope that you get lots of success out of it. I never see too many grubs here, but I have 8 zillion pillbugs.

apparently beetles like our yard because its got the full sun exposure, Loz. Tho, our other lawn did also and we didn't have a grub problem. Oh well.
