I just got an email from Carol's sister - Carol wanted me and everyone here to know that...

Carol took a bad fall 2 days ago and she is going to be OK but she is pretty bummed up. She has a large bruise on her arm and she has a compression fracture on the T-6 verterbrae. She said to let everyone on the site know and she does not know when she will be back on. All they can do for it is make her comfortable and she is still coughing so they are treatng that too.
Carol's coughing is from a bad cold that she's had for a couple of weeks now, and was finally getting treated for recently.
I hope that Carol can get as much rest as possible given her condition, and that she is back here with us as soon as possible.
Carol get better quicker. I know how back injuries can put you out of action . Hopping yours gets better fast. Me and all the Critters are pulling for you.

I to hope you are on the way to recovery soon- back injuries are no fun.... take care of the cough too - Prayers for a fast and complete recovery.. Nana
I'm sorry to report that I've just heard from Carol's sister again, and Carol has pneumonia. She ran a fever this afternoon, and her husband is going to have to take her back to the hospital, or a larger one in St. Louis.
I hope they have already gone to the hospital, and that Carol is getting the treatment she badly needs. I'm sure she would appreciate it if you would all keep her in your thoughts. Her sister is going to lend her a laptop computer to use just as soon as she is able to sit up without too much pain.
Ohhhhhhhhhh Nooooooooo,,,,,,,, Poor CAROL Prayers for her ,, Next time you hear from her sister tell you Thankyou sooooo Much for keeping us informed,,,,,, and Thank you Lynne for keeping us updated!

Lynne thank you so much for posting about Carol! It is good of you to keep us updated.
Carol Jean, all prayers always.
May your recovery be swift and strong.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
Thank you all for posting here. Carol's sister is going to print this thread out and give it to her the next time she sees her.
She sent me another email late last night - Carol had decided to stay home last night and not go to the hospital. I haven't had an update for this morning yet.
[size:17pt] CAROL... Please...

Carol you need to get your self to the hospital that stuff is nothing to mess with and with an injured back you are confined in how you can lie to start with. I know what I am talking about I have been there. PLEASE GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!

i spoke to carol this morning. she sounded groggy, as i would be too in her condition. she did say she does have plans to go back to the dr, but she felt that it could wait a day or two. they have her scheduled for x-rays to verify everything going on with her.
i gave her our love and told her about this post. she was glad lynne was able to post.

Ohhhhh Dear I soooooooo wanted to call Carol also, but I all too well remember that's it's hard talking on the phone when you have pneumonia, a painful back, and a lingering cough. When I had pneumonia and a bad cough I could barely catch my breath when I talked. But I'm sure it was good to hear a voice of concern. It's good to know she's having more x rays taken soon Carol for better news. Hopefully Carol's sister will update Lynne with Carol's condition so she can share it here with us all .

carol and i talk frequently on the phone and she is expecting a call from me again before the weekend it out. she did say that she would have someone there with her all next week while rod was at work, so she won't be alone and if she isn't up to talking there is someone to field the calls. if for some reason i don't talk to her, i'll call valerie (her daughter) to check on her. valerie and i have spoken by phone a few times too
I have just heard from Carol's sister again, and she had pretty good news to share, and asked me to pass it along.

I just came from Carols and I am happy to tell you that I feel she looked better... and she was able to sit up for a minute without yelling out in pain, that was not possible yesterday. She seems to be breathing better too. She is on antibiotics and I am sure they will give her more on Monday. She is also keeping some liquids down too. So that is a big improvement. I had been worried about her dehydrating.
Thank you so much for all the well wishes, I will print these out tonight and I am going to see my nieces tomorrow afternoon so I will send them back with them.
I will continue to update her sister with posts that you all make here, so she can continuously share them with Carol.

Ohhhhhhhhh This is good news! I'm so glad to hear she is taking in fluids,, that's very important and keeping them down is a big improvement! Bless her Heart,,
It sounds like her pain isn't as severe either. Hopefully tomorrow it will be even less. Please thank her sister for us. It's very kind she is keeping in touch with via her emails to you. Hopefully she will get lots of undisturbed rest and sleep well and let the antibiotics and God take care of her!

Oh my, I somehow missed this post. How horrible for Carol.
I'm so relieved that she's feeling a bit better though. That is good news. Hopefully she'll stay on the mend and rest up and everything will be okay. :ding:
I just got a call from Carol ,,,,,,,, I had Called her last Wednesday ( Not knowing she had fallen that day ) to thank her for her gift box she sent me,, and she had just checked her messages earlier today ,, and felt up to returning calls from several days ago. We talked about 10 minutes maybe ,,, She said her phone " just keeps ringing, ringing. ringing,, " and it was exhausting her. Tho she didn't need to call me ~ she did,, Sweet Carol,, She was in good spirits ,, But sounded tired, She said. "Thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers, "
Lynne she said to tell you "I actually DID get a gentle Hug from You From Rod! "
She also expressed how very very disappointed she is that she won't be gardening this year,,,, I asked Her IF there was ONE plant she wanted to see MORE than any other Plant this year What would it be! She said The Coconut Lime Echinacea.! I told Her I will name Mine "Carol's Coconut Lime,," I know it's not the same as having it there with her,, But It's named for the right reasons!

I'm so glad you spoke with Carol yesterday, Diane! Sounds like she was doing pretty well when you two spoke.
I also got another email from her sister late last night, and she said she looks better each day, and seems to be feeling a bit better each day too - that's so terrific!
I do need to mention that Carol read the posts here, and feels that we think she is not getting the medical attention that she needs. She was already on the medication that would probably have been prescribed for pneumonia - I happen to know she was on a Z pack since last Monday, so hopefully it has kicked in and is healing her now.
I know we are all very anxious for Carol to get back to feeling like herself again so she can join us here on the forums, and hopefully with patience and care that will happen sooner than later.
Oh NO you guys!!! I just got another email from Carol's sister...

Carol went back to the Dr. today, Emily took her. Her shoulder is broken, which I suspected all along. I broke my leg some years back and it was bruised like that. So I am not surprised. They are sending her to her bone Dr in St. Louis, I guess she is getting an appointment today.
Pooooooooooooooor Carol! I'm out of words! I feel so badly for her.
Here is a picture of Carol's bruised back, shoulder and arm, that her sister sent to me. The picture is taken of Carol holding her arm over her chest - what you see is the back to the arm. I'm putting it in here in case anyone has a weak stomach - it's not pretty!
Carol's bruise from falling...
Carol - if you read this, please know that I am thinking of you constantly and wishing for better times to come very soon for you! Hugs and well wishes to you my friend!
i got to talk to carol this afternoon. she was home after a long day getting x-rays etc and visiting doctors. she found out she broke her shoulder in the fall and that was part of what was making her so miserable. the good news is that it was the bad shoulder, so now they can address the break and the other problems at the same time.
she also asked me to let everyone know that she did not refuse adequate medical attention, she just didn't want to go in for x-rays, then back for the doctor visit when she could do it all in one trip today.

Oh, I am so Sorry!! Somehow I missed this post. Old age is heck on the eyes (for one thing, mind the other). Anyway, I do hope and PRAY that she will be better soon. It must be so painful to be broken up and coughing at the same time. Please fell Better Soon Carol!
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
Val here. Mom says to update you all once again. Some of you may know that my life has turned a little crazy. I lost my teaching job, then my husband walked out on me. Anyway, this enables me to be here with mom quite a lot. I was going to move home eventually anyway - once our house sold. Now I think I will move home sooner to take care of mom.
To update everyone: Emily did take her to the Dr. yesterday. We've had a lot of inconsistency in what the dr's said to us. The ER Dr. wasn't nice at all, we were told one thing, then she was X-rayed for another... All this inconsistency is what led to all the confusing updates posted here. It was as though every day we found out something different. So sorry that was perhaps confusing. I hope not. I think Aunt Tara did a good job of updating everyone.
So finally now they're saying both her thorasic vertebra #6 (T6) has a compression fracture as well as her shoulder being broken (see photo posted by my Aunt above). Meanwhile she had had a cold/bronchitis which, as I suspected, turned into Pneumonia. We now (I think) have a handle on what all is wrong. She was on a good antibiotic that kicked her pneumonia quickly over the weekend. Then yesterday when she was at the dr., he changed her over to another antibiotic that should work even better. While that is good, she has already imporved greatly in that area. So that is probably the least of her worries at present.
In reguards to how she is feeling I will share a quick story: Mom's sister, who posts on here for all of you, was over and cleaned a little for my mom. Then when i came over today, I decided to clean out some of her kitchen cabnets and rearrange them since they'd gotten messed up and I couldn't tell where to put what. Well Mom felt well enough to get out of bed and walk into the kitchen to yell at me for putting stuff in all different places.
She also has been sitting up quite a lot and now has pain meds that provide a fair amount of relief and do not make her nauseated as the others did before. She is able to eat and drink what she likes, though it will be some time yet before she is able to sit and type.
Do keep writing to her though. I read her your letters and well wishes today. My Aunt has done an excellent job of printing them all our for her as well so she can see all the little characters and cartoons attached to your posts. (I particularly enjoyed the sick frog ).
Also she mentioned that now that she is feeling better she does not mind phone calls. Yes, she was very groggy, tired, coughing and in pain the last few days, however now she is doing better. She doesn't have much of a cough at all and just needs to pass the time while her bones heal. Emails, calls, and just the occasional post are really appreciated as she looks forward to hearing from all her friends. I'll check in each day so that mom can read/listen to your new posts.
We'll be visiting a doctor tomorrow who will give us a long-term outlook on mom's recovery and I"ll share what we learn there with all of you tomorrow.
thank you valerie. i'd say give your mom a hug, but that might hurt her too much. in the meantime, let her know i'm still praying for her comfort and healing.
