You are focusing on the background. You should have a little red dot in the center of your viewfinder. Wherever you see that dot lights up, that is the part that the camera has focused on. Make sure that the red dot is on the bird or whatever you want to be in focus. Otherwise, THAT part of the picture will be out of focus. You should set it on Center Focus and Spot Metering for best results.
And by the way, your bird is a Cedar Waxwing.

that's why I was excited to see them and wanted to get pictures. I haven't seen or probably just noticed them in my yard before. In my view finder I could see the mask clear as could be but then the pictures were a blur.

The bird may have been too close, too.

It looks to me like the robins were farther away and this bird was much closer. Next time you have a bird that close try putting your camera on macro, if it has it, and then it should focus better. Or back up a bit from the window to get the bird far enough away for your camera to focus. Those are my ideas. I'm hoping to get outside lots this weeks and get some more bird pics. I'm getting really into it and I even bought a bird book and have a website bookmarked to help me learn to identify the birds I'm getting pictures of. It's so addicting!

There have been large numbers of Waxwings everywhere this year. I usually only see them in May, but this year they have been hanging around my house daily since Christmas. Right now they are in the tops of the tallest trees.
