We are not big drinkers in my family but we do enjoy trying new things from time to time. Last night my sister in OH and I were talking of different things we've tried this past year.

I told her I've always wanted to try a Mint Julep, but the only time I've seen it made, it had Lavender Syrup in it and I don't know where to get Lavender Syrup. She said that is merely a variation of the recipe but a genuine Mint Julep can be as simple as Mint, Super fine sugar and Kentucky Bourbon over crushed ice. Now THAT I could try!

I have a fondness of Mulled Wine but many people do not care for it, especially true wine experts. She said a guy in NY invented a way to make Mulled Manhattan's which are served cold. They contain Bourbon, Orange Bitters, Angostora bitters, Grape Juice and Orange Liquor. That sounds yummy! And I bet my guests would like it better than the mulled wine.

So what about you? Have you heard of anything lately you are interested in trying at some point? Do you have a favorite mixed drink recipe to share? What's on YOUR Top Ten List?

I like ....

Memosas
Tea & Sympathy
Manhattan
Dark Rum in Hot Cocoa
Tequila Sunrise
Brandy Alexander

I know it is only six, but.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

We don't drink either but one time at my friends house for breakfast we had Memosa's, champagne with orange juice, then another time with cranberry juice. Very tasty. Another time I had a Top Shelf Margarita with Grand Marnier (don't know what that is) that was tasty. I tried Irish Tea one time and it was horrible.

Sheri ~ Grand Marnier is an Orange Flavored liquor. That is what is used in Tea & Sympathy (hot tea, Grand Marnier, sugar). It is quite expensive ($60 a bottle) but delicious!

I like Memosa's too, especially for New Year's Day breakfast.

Yes. I buy the little jiggers size. It is enough for two or three cups of Tea & Sympathy. Some people add an orange slice, but I do not. I let the GM speak for itself!

I like AMF's and Black Opal's... And yes, I do drink women's drinks... Why? Alcohol has little effect on me, may as well drink for taste :P...

I generally just drink Jager or Tripple Sec or Gold Schlogger

here is my favorite "Girlie drink"

Frozen Starwberry Daiquiris

1-6 oz can frozen lemonade
1-12 oz can white soda
6 oz white rum--(more or less to taste)--I use 4 oz. actually
1 carton frozen Strawberries,--1/2 or 1 pint
about 1 tray crushed ice cubes.

In blender, blend rum and lemonade. Slowly add in white soda, blend, and then berries, and blend well. (hold lid down tight)
Blend in cracked or crushed ice slowly, blending between additions until mixture is thick...pour into a freezer proof container and freeze for 2-3 hours.
Spoon into a glass and serve with a spoon and a straw.

NOTE: It is helpful to stir drink periodically while drink is "setting" to ensure even distribution of rum.

YUM!!!!!

Well, Merme, most of the drinks that I like are served in a shot glass and have the word 'nipple' in their name. lol

But I also like grasshoppers, white russians, mud slides, and sweet white wines. Stephen always says that I am expensive to take to the bar...tho, he likes martinis, so I don't know what he's talking about! lol

Recipe's:
Black Opal
AMF

Note that the AMF's actual name is vulgar; so if you're easily offended, don't click the link...

I prefer to use a quality tea such as Red rose or Lipton, which don't have the bitterness of other teas.

are these the cockles of the famed "silver bells and cockle shells"? Maybe the cockles of your heart are attached to the heart strings? Hmmm. The answer will most likely come to me after I've sampled the tea.

be careful. Thorn will be in here before you know it, looking for 'pretty maids' lol

I don't care much for mixed drinks anymore. I like beer. every once in a while during the winter time I enjoy a bit of whiskey. I don't mix it with anything, just a shot or two straight from the freezer.
back in my young and dumb days I loved the long island iced teas. whoa!

Sheri no one really knows where the expression started though it first appeared in the mid-1700. There is a possibility that since cockles are sorta heart shaped and a staple of English diet, the original speaker just drew a likely comparison. There is the other possibility that it derives from a play on words ... a sort of in-joke for Latin speakers... In medieval Latin the ventricles of the heart were called cochleae cordis and the cochleae could be mispronounced as cockles.

There is also the possiblity that the expression arose based on knowledge of a kiln. The compartments of a kiln are called cockles. They all must be fired properly, warmed, for the kiln to operate properly. So, the speaker may have made an analogy based on the heart being like a kiln needing all the cockles warmed for it to operate right.

I will drink a mixed drink every now and again but I am mostly a beer drinker. If I drink a mixed drink it is typically something like Limon and Coke. Nothing special. I do like daquiris and margaritas though. I just never really drink them. They are too much work when I can just crack open a beer. haha

Tequila Jack... a shot of Tequila, a shot of Jack Daniels, and Coke.

Jack rose... applejack, grenadine and lemon or lime juice.

Those are my sister Nancy/Wildwood flower's two top favorites.

Mojito's are another favorite, white rum, sugar cane, lime, carbonated water and Cuban mint.

He thinks it's funny that the women dance practically nude on stage but if the plumbers need to go into the dressing room they have to give the dancers notice so they can put on their clothes.

I told him they probably think of the dancing as a job and being practically nude is part of the job but don't care to be looked at nude when they're in the dressing room. I know I don't like to have a bunch of people asking me medical questions when I'm trying to eat my lunch in the school cafeteria.
