all 3rd graders in my daughters school rcvd a cauliflower plant. my daughters plant is on the left. the one on the right is a neighbor boy that left his in it's original seedling pot for three weeks. once he saw my daughters he asked if we'd put his in our garden for him. it's struggling but getting some healthy new leaves! I SO hope it produces and I can send him home one day soon with a big cauliflower head! and yes, that is an onion in between them.

Hey Cricket, your garden is looking just great so far! Your tomatoes and peppers all seem so vigorous, as does your daughter's cauliflower. I hope the boy's cauliflower catches up in time.... I'm sure it would mean alot to him!
How much space do you have for your garden? Do you always do pineapple in a mound like that?
Sorry I don't have any vegetable photos to "show you mine" but it is far too early up here yet. I'll just have to be content "seeing yours".

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.

one day I'm gonna measure the garden or do the math. people are always asking. but it has 6 rows on 18" centers. and the lenght is almost twice the width. last year my pineapples were in pots. I thought I'd try them in the mounds this time. I put them out way to early though. they were kinda shocked and unhappy. its just been in the last week that they are perking up.

I have my ground tilled and disced that is about it. The rain wont stop long enough for us to get something planted. This is the first year I am doing one, so I will aggravate some people here soon!
By the way here is mine.... (picture taken 6/4/09)
Okay so this is my first try at this. My lettuce is already eaten (as you can see in the below picture it was ready). I started my garden the second week of March when we had that warm spell in MO. So by May it was well established. Here is a May 4th shot, (picture taken 5/4/09)
So I'm thinking of planting some more vegges but have not decided what. I currently have tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, cauliflower, peppers, squash, cantalope, watermelon, strawberries. The peppers and melons I just planted and my strawberries that I planted in March are growing like a weed...spreading everywhere.
I continually plant lettuce seeds so I have lettuce for months. If you use a lot of lettuce try that. As soon as I pull up some I throw down more seeds. It gets things out of a straight line row but I don't mind.
I've never grown broccoli or cauliflower. I think around here I have to plant them when it's cool.
I'm not sure what you mean about you're cauliflower doesn't look like this...
Cricket, the 3rd graders at my school were given cabbage plants. I guess Bonnie does it all over the country.

well, that's interesting isn't it?
I had forgotten all about this thread! boy, I need to get some recent pic's posted. my little garden looked so organized and tame then. now, everything is huge and I'm constantly fighting the weeds. but, were eating fresh veggies just about EVERY day now!

I can't post any pictures of my garden because my camera is still missing. I've begun harvesting cukes, zucchini, and lettuce.Butternut squash is blooming, got cantaloupes and watermelons growing.Tomatoes and tomatillos are growing fine.
danielp, I've got an upside tomato too. It seems to be doing ok so far. Kendall is a cutie. How old is she? I've never grown carrots but I've got some seeds.
sheri...I think se means drift from a nearby field being sprayed. emde, lookin' good! Don't worry about the peppers, it's good to rotate, but people often plant the same thing in the same rows year after year.
Heirloom tobacco growing on property owned by the City of Cincinnati! (Between the sidewalk & the street isn't really ours.) I got them in late, but they're not doing too badly. Unfortunately, I hope we're moved by the time it's ready to pick. But a nice experiment, don't you think?
