Two things Mom got from a neighbor & can't identify: the yellow ground cover and the shrub. She asked me & I was clueless. Thoughts? (She's in NC zone 7.)

I think you may need to take close up photos so we can see them better. The first is difficult to see (are the blooms blue or is it even blooming- if it's blue it could be Caryopteris), the second looks like it may be Creeping Jenny, but you need to get closer.
