YAY!!!! I went out to open my cold frame to let it vent out a little since the rain stopped a bit and the sun was out. Low and behold there was little tiny lettuce plants coming up! YAY!!! clap

Now here's my question (did you really think there wouldn't be a question??)...
I'm going away on Saturday afternoon and coming home Sunday evening. The temps are supposed to be high (85 as a high on both days with a low of 58 for Saturday night). If I leave the frame closed, the new plants will surely die. I can open the lid about 2" to let it vent out, but I won't be home to close the frame. Do you think leaving it open for that one night will be OK???? The little seedlings look soo healthy and I don't want them to die!

58 is not too cold for lettuce, Jenn. They should be safe and very happy. Congrats on your produce babies!

Tina, this morning I looked in the frame and there is some of white mold growing at the inside edges of the frame. I understand why it's there...the other day when it was nice outside I watered the soil in the box because it was all dry. It's been raining outside for the last two days and it's been rather cold, so I kept the lid of the frame closed. There must not have been enough air flow in the frame. I'm going to open the lid a couple inches to get the air flowing in there. I'm going to scrape the mold off of the soil to slow down the growth. Is there anything else I can do? Can I use the fungicidal spray made from baking soda that papito posted in the other thread??? I don't want my babies to die!!

The baking soda won't hurt your plants at all. So give it a try.

I scraped the mold off this afternoon while the kids were sleeping. ...had to help Stephen do something afterward so I didn't get a chance to the do the baking soda thing. Tomorrow is another day. On the plus side, a zucchini started coming up today! clap
