Carol here is the Brick I was discussing with you last nite. It needs repairs....... Now what? --Dodge-- I would do as little as possible----first go to Walmart and buy some white, red and blue acrylic paints they will be in little 2 oz. bottles in the craft section. Or if you have a Michels they will have it as well. you will need to match the colors very closly, so if it were me I would buy several different reds & blues & then keep the one that matches, Walmart will take back the ones not used.---write down what colors you use that match for future reference .--(Brand and shade name) You will also need a can of matte sealer-or if you like really shiny you could get semi-gloss or high gloss. I prefer the matte--I just re-spray to get the item a bity more glossy if I wish.-- if when you get that far we will talk more--- you can mess up spraying the sealer---You will first re-paint the white---use a thin edged ruler to make sure you make a straight edge (do not do the stars on the blue color--first decide IF you are going to even paint the blue---if you decide the blue does not need painting, later you could paint the stars & buttons) let EACH COLOR DRY VERY WELL BEFORE BEGINNING THE NEXT COLOR my next choice would be to paint the red. now if you are ok with how Uncle sam looks so far then you could stop. If not..... if you do do the blue let it dry VERY well before you try to repaint the stars & red "buttons". Each paint MUST be very dry for you to begin the next color. about the face----it looks pretty bad----to "fix" it you could either buy some grey paint and repaint it, to look like the unpainted brick---(I assume you have black aready) or if you are daring you could buy flesh color & make the face a true flesh color. Then add back on the eyes--That is what you would need the black for---the eyes When it is all very DRY---say let it dry 1 day at least---then you could spray it with the sealer---the directions on how to properly use the sealer are on the can---but you might want to practice on something else first before you spray--but I think you sure could do it--- also paint the front & 1 side one day and the back and the other side another day----OR the sides first and tehn when they are dry, do the back let it dry well and tehn do the fron last so i t is left untouched while drying well. you DO NOT want to have the paint smear--ALTHOUGH with acrylics one can repaint/fix any mistakes. is this as clear as mud??? I am here to help you thru it all---I only wish I were closer, I would do it for you---

When repairing anything, I make sure to spray the whole thing with sealer first. That way if I mess up, I can wash it off with no damage. Then reseal after I am done. Makes it easier to fix.

can't you just spray or paint it with some type of polyurethan that will keep it like it is right now and not worry about repairs. It looks good to me. Or pack it up and send it to the frog woman.

LOL I got some spray paint beige for the face..I will try a repair.. b barb--I do hope you do not mean to spray the face directly---all of the top wil be beige if you do---but you could sparay the paint into a can or soemthing and then use a brush to transfwer it to the face.... also when one is using acrylics you do not have to worry about spraying it before you paint. you can go over the acrylic paint as many times as you want, the paint is forgiving...but obviously a lighter paint might take more than 1 coat to cover a dark paint but it can stil be done and done well.

I still think you should just fix the face and put some sort of protector stuff on the rest. it's too cute to change. i like the weathered look.

there is a pencil that we use on unfired items before we fire them for the second time, that works well--but I do not think it is as dark
[color:#990000]Here is another idea[/color] Once you color the face the color you want it--and apply the sealer ( a spray is easiest) Let it dry really well--like 24 hours. then take a Sharpie permanent marker--"Ultra fine point" in black---- you will have to have sealer on the bottom as well to see exactly how the test will work. Try out the marker on the bottom of the brick--to see how it works-- if it does not run, I would use that to re-apply the eyes & mouth. But you need to apply the sealer first---because applying the sealer after the ink will cause it to run and the pen will not work so well on the acrylic without it being sealed anyway

you wont, and like I say=== paint over the face area--let it dry real good--- seal it let that dry real well and THEN get a Sharpie Extra fine point permanent marker and draw his eyes, nose, mouth in. and let it dry--and you are done--- (do not spray or paint sealer on over this marker-- AND do not put it ouside for a few days so it can dry & become "permanent" OR if you would rather not do it yourself, is there a ceramic shop in the area you could take it to and have the owner there fix it for you???
