Cheryl you seem as busy as ever! Does nothing slow you down?

The Xbox membership sounds fun. I know Maxi likes it when he can play with other kids and not just all by himself. He doesn't have an Xbox... he plays on other systems.

Glad your car fixed itself!

I know. If you were in my neighborhood, you'd be a most excellent girl for me! thumbup

new CH........WOW.......let's get the floors dirty.....and run a-muck! bop

from the old CH. (never hear of Peter Principal)

....It holds that in a hierarchy, members are promoted so long as they work competently. Sooner or later they are promoted to a position at which they are no longer competent (their "level of incompetence"), and there they remain, being unable to earn further promotions. Peter's Corollary states that "in time, every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out his duties" and adds that "work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence".

Oh I had to chuckle at your desciption of your car as "the little engine that could".

I once had a car I called "the little engine that couldn't!" haha It was a very old VW beetle convertible. It truly didn't have enough spark to get up most hills. At the time, I lived in Cincinnati, the "city of seven hills" -- a misnomer because it had a couple o' hundred hills! So, I'd plan my route to either avoid hills OR I would try to get a good bit of steam going down the previous hill so that it could chug chug up the next one.

Parts would actually fall of it as I was going down the road. Then one day, it just wouldn't go any more. Bye bye, old car!

Things slow me down all the time Merme, just not as fast as they used to. It's amazing what can happen when you finally figure out what's been making you so sick and tired for so long and then can eliminate it. I still have bad days, but they aren't as bad as they used to be and my good days have gotten better. My next goal will be to focus on fitness. One thing at a time though.

My car is an '87 and it needs a running start to get up some of the hills here at anywhere near the speed limit. Otherwise it really is the little engine that could, putting up the hill at a slugs pace, but still making it there eventually. Some of our hills easily rival San Francisco.

Chermoni.. care to share your story of success of quitting smoking with a fellow smoker..
I want to quit so bad, I think about it constantly, I am scared to take the first step. I plan it out, Then My brain says nooooooo must have nicotine. I can do all sorts of other stuff, give up fatty foods, no sweets etc. But the one thing that will kill me.. AGGGH! would love to hear your story.

We had a busy morning but some fun, too.

I saw the back specialist for a much-needed appointment. Then we went up to town to that cool CD & DVD store. Maxi had a gift card that was burning a hole in his pocket. lol

He bought Rocky Horror Picture Show, though I winced and said "MUST you buy that?!"

I wasn't snooping around the store and saw these really attractive Eric Clapton t-shirts and they had one in Maxi's size. They were 70% off. So I asked the kid "Would you like an Eric Clapton t-shirt?" and my kid answered

"WHO is Eric Clapton?"

ohmygoodness! About the world's best guitarist and my kid doesn't even know his name! yikes

We gotta get some stereo time in, apparently.

Lesson One: Wear the cool a$$ t-shirt!
Lesson Two: Listen to this CD...

lol

Dont ya love Kids, Merme??
When my 23 year old was a mere school girl she had this new favorite song---

"Turn The Page" by Metallica----she was ever so upset when I told her they had done a remake and the song was first done by Bob Seger in like 1973 ish. And I also said I liked Segers version better--(well of course I would)

Well she just knew I was wrong--but when I knew ALL the words---she was done---Poor kids---- haha

Oh Carol Jean, that's funny.

Maxi and all his friends walk around singing "My friend the witch doctor he told me what to do... he said ooh ee, ooh ah ah, ting tang, walla walla bing bang!"

They were shocked when I told them how old that song really is!

What, do they thing THEIR generation is the only one to invent the cool stuff?! lol

I did manage to get my pickled beets & eggs made this afternoon but I am totally stumped on my dinner. Maxi opted for a frozen pizza. I may choose cheese grits w/ garlic, I dunno.

Maxi knows how old I am but he associates that age with the Model T Ford era or earlier. He cracks me up with it!

So I showed him the neat cars of the 50's and 60's and he laughed his little head off!

Kids!

Carol Jean I will PM you my easy pickled beets and egg recipe.

My son thinks AC/DC and Ozzy is the coolest music that ever was. (can't argue with that) BUT, he is surprised I know all the tunes. I keep telling him that was the music I grew up on. He just grins and shakes his head like I STILL don't 'get it'.

I'm off work tomorrow! YEA!

It is so cold again here today I can't believe they are predicting 80 for Saturday! If it is anywhere near that nice, Maxi and I are going to cook out.

80 degrees for merme and maxi! wha-hoo! I can smell the cookout from here!
tonight I'd love to trade you some of this warm for some of you cold. We're having 80's during the day and 60's at night. I'm trying not to run the a/c. just opening up and shutting down the windows as need be. it is HOT here still tonight and it is very hard for me to sleep with windows and doors open. *cricket spooked by them coons*. I just have this visual of a racoon slipping in a window while we're sleeping....then the dogs waking up and running after them......whew!...like a chevy chase vacation movie - red neck style!
OH, and thank you SO much for calling me young, merme! you've made my day!

Don't you have screens on your windows and doors, Cricket? I would open those bad boys and let the cool air in. And I'd be running fans to save on the a/c if you don't really need it yet.

Of course I grew up in the era before home a/c... most homes didn't have it and so people knew all the tricks for cooling off interiors. One thing is to streamline what is inside the home. Less is better!

Maxi was surprised when I suggested a cookout because we usually don't do that unless there is another adult present. But I believe the two of us could manage our little grill just fine now that he is taller and older.

Oh, heck yea! it will be great fun.
last night I was super tired and my son said he needed a lunch check. I told him to bring me my check book and I'd sign the check and he could fill it out. THEN I realized I'd never shown him how to write a check! (he's 12) we had more fun! he LOVED filling out his own check and learning what went where. it's funny how the things we take for granted are still brand new to a child that is almost a teenager already! (still lots of teaching and learning to be done, right?)

I tend to show Maxi useful things way ahead of time just because of my precarious health. I'm always concerned we are going to run out of time!

Your son always sounds so sweet, Cricket, you must be proud of him!

screens will not deter raccoons or squirrels if they are hell bent on getting in. My mother's screened in porch has been attacked several times by both. wouldn't it be interesting to wake up with a squirrel laying next to you in the bed.

yikes interesting??? lol

I was feeding the coons for a while a couple of years back. I thought they were so cute until they started stealing the dog food and dog bowls. they were wiping us out! they'd take off with the whole 30 lb bag of food! and not just drag it off the porch and eat it, but take it away. we'd find the empty bags weeks or months later WAY off in the woods. and they loved the shiny stainless food bowls too. gone!

Raccoons they are just like those Grackles. I hate those birds. they eat every bit of suet and seed I put out. They scare off my other birds. they're just plain greedy.
