Hi all, I am new here. I have had a large garden for about 4 yrs now. Wanting to try new methods to eliminate weeds besides rototilling. I have heard black landscape fabric but that is expensive and I have heard that it reflects too much heat on to the plants. Preen works well but in the small print it recommends not using around certain plants(namely green beans which are my main crop). I tried newspapers and straw but that seemed to make the plants too hot and when weeds eventually grew through it was even harder to weed? suggestions?

After I've visably removed all the weeds I can, I personally like a good organic mulch to prevent their return. Bill's article on "Controlling weeds In Your Lawn Or Garden" discusses this option. To me, organic mulch just seems easier and also less problematic than other methods.
