That looks like a Rainbow Lorikeet or one of the Painted Buntings we have here in the Southern U.S.

I think you're right, Thorn; it is a rainbow lorikeet. I looked up the painted bunting- what a beautiful bird! Do you see many of them there? I would love to see photos if you spot one while you have the camera.

Thanks, Chermoni! You do have some really beautiful birds over there; I especially love the hummers and the bluebirds. Also saw a fantastic red, black and white bird posted by obywan, that looked just like it was in my football team's jumper! Just found it; it is the rose-breasted grosbeak (at least that's what obywan said).

I would think that your climate would work for hummers. Maybe it's the distance.
