Hi all.. I hardened off my plants for a week or so and put them in the ground a few days ago... I looked at my plants today and some of the leaves appear as though they've dried out and feel like burnt paper.. Does anyone know what this problem is? Also the plants are producing new leaves. Thanks!!!

Now that I've looked at the plants closer the best way I can describe it is it looks like the color has been sucked out of the leaves.. The leaves are now white and brittle. Could it be cold damage or fertilizer burn? I did put some alaska fish emulsion in the ground last sunday.

I suspect you didn't harden off the plants and wind and sun dessicated parts of the leaves. How do they look now? What all did you plant?

I planted some zucchini, yellow squash, and cukes. As of now the plants have developed new growth and look really good. I thought maybe I had added too much fish emulsion or maybe the orangic hummus and manure I purchased and added to the soil was bad. Thanks for the reply!

Too much fertilizer will do that, but here in our windy area I don't expect much less then what you got with your plants. We harden our plants for quite a few days too, but it still seems to hit them a bit hard once they're transplanted outside full time. Glad to know that you're seeing new growth, plants can be pretty forgiving at times if we have patience with them.
