I DO think! Cardinals are MEMBERS of the Grosbeak family. We also have the rose-Breasted Grosbeak, one of the prettiest birds in North America. Google that one up.

It is also listed as UNCOMMON, one step above Rare. BUT, it is not threatened and its numbers appear to be increasing rather than decreasing.
Believe it or not, the Blue Grosbeak is a close relative of both the Cowbird AND the Cardinal!

Its field marks are listed as being a bright blue with reddish/russet wing bars, and a having a heavy, silvery-coloured, Cardinal-like bill. They are the same size as a Cardinal (there was a Cardinal in the tree next to it!) and there song is like a HOARSE version of a House Finch Song (Grosbeaks, including Cardinals, are in the Finch family, too, along with Buntings).
