Last year I planted some snapdragons they died back for winter and have some back twice as thick and bigger and better than last year,
They are sitting in front of a "lavender wish Pink rose " these roses start blooming in a dark pink then turn a pinkish color as it opens , when it's fully open it takes a "hue" of pale lavender.., this is the first year I have actually seen it happen I have these for about three years now... I wish the camera could have captured it's true color on the opened ones so you could see the lavender in the color.

We FINALLY had some good weather - it was up near 70 today, and I spent 4 hours outside, cleaning up, trimming bushes, planting seeds (it is early to do that here, but I've had these seeds from last summer, so if they don't make it, it's not a big loss.) My back is killing me, but it will all be worth it soon - can't wait!
I actually have a bit of color here today, though the hyacinths are not their usual healthy selves - guess all the thawing and then freezing took its toll on them this year... they are stunted and not as vibrant as usual.
Another picture of my scilla siberica - I just LOVE that blue!
I'm glad your getting color in the yard Lynne,, and ya got some time in the yard today with the great weather your having!! It's easy to over do our labor outside when we have a gorgeous day to get out there and play Huh??

Meet Clyde my Male Sugar Glider. Clyde says Keep it organic.
Michael - I also really like that color - it would be great for my orange/goldfish garden! Is it a perennial, and do you know what zones it's hardy to?
Can I bore you all with a few more scilla pictures today? I wish I had bought more when I did 2 years ago - who knew how lovely the color would be???
Wow, wow, wow! I haven't looked in here for a while and everyone has such nice pictures! Jimmy, Lynne, Michael, and Diane! Wonderful! I really love all your blooms you two have Jimmy and Diane....lucky you two for living in a warmer climate and getting a jumpstart on things!
OK - I just went outside and took some pictures of my rose of Sharons to show you that you can keep their size in check. This first one, is probably about 8 or so years old, and I prune it a little each year so it doesn't get too huge. Two days ago I topped it off - it's about 5 feet tall. I also take off any branches that are sticking out to the sides, so it maintains a nice shape.
This is the white rose of Sharon, that I bought 5 years ago to plant in Cookie's garden. She was our black and mostly white cat, who is buried under this garden. I've tried to plant white flowers there for her, but somehow pinks always manage to find their way into my gardens too! I also pruned this one back the other day - it's a little over 5 feet now, but is wider - seems to grow faster than the pink one for some reason.
You can also grow these as topiaries - the trick is to cut off any branching out when the plant is still young and small. When it reaches the height you like, then you can let it branch out.
Thanks for the pictures Lynne!! Those are good size, but now that I know they can get bigger than that WOW!! I want to keep mine smaller probably no larger than 4 feet!! Thanks for the tips of pruning back and shaping as we personally would like it to be!!
