This volunteer plant showed up this year and I have no idea what it is.
Does anyone know what this might be.

Below is a closeup of the pods that are all in one location on the plant.

We saw this plant beginning back in early spring so we have been watching it.
It may be just a weed, but I've never saw one like it before.

Thanks for any information.

Thanks Cricket.

I agree it looks like it would bloom.
It may not be pretty but it'll be interesting to see what it will do later.

The pods are firm but not hard shell.

look around your yard and see if you have a big shrub or tree that resembles it. Maybe the pods will have opened.

Could it be a bladder campion (Silene vulgaris)?

actually, it looks more like a shrubby plant...how bout bladder senna? The bladder campion has much smaller leaves now that I think about it blush

Bestofour,
It would be hard to really look around for another one. We have 20 acres of woods.
Mostly very tall oaks that need to be thinned out.
This plant happened to show up by an oak that is close to the house. We’ve never seen it before.

Kenny,
The bladder senna does look similar to it, but I’m not sure. I’ll have to keep a watch out to see what the pods do. Interesting if nothing else.

Thanks,
Shirl

My daughter thought this plant might be a Wild Senna Plant, but its leaves aren’t the same as on this plant.
I did a couple more close up pictures.
There are 5 leaves together instead of two. I don’t know if I’m saying that right.

If it shows well in the pictures, you can see there are 3 larger leaves at the top with 2 smaller leaves at the bottom. Each set looks the same.
The wild senna has straight across long slender leaves.

I think it shows the shape of the leaves in this first picture.

Then in the second picture, I think you can see how they are all set the same,
over the whole plant.

It's not a real important thing here, grin
It's just interesting how this plant shows up and nobody around our place knows what it is.
Thats when I went searching for experts like you find here, on this forum. thumbup
