I bought a Eucalyptus patio set to keep in the gazebo. I read that this is durable material. I put it together then into the gazebo. THEN I realize its in the grass and maybe that is not such a great idea. I do want to build a patio but I wasn't really planning on doing it this year. Is it a bad idea to leave this sitting directly on the grass? click to see photo

Well, yes it's a bad idea, but you won't see the furniture deteriorate over one season. I'd say set a patio paver under each foot and then don't worry too much, it'll be okay for awhile.

I grow eucalyptus and use it for rustic fencing. It is more durable than pine, for instance but it will decay in time. Whether or not you leave it in the grass, I would add a protectant to help it last longer. And at least the legs. I think to just raise them a touch from the contact with wet ground would be beneficial too. Like maybe rubber pads glued to the bottom of each leg. That is a beautiful set.

I used the Teak oil and put pavers down... its killing the grass underneath but I think I'll live with that until I build the patio! I am sitting in it right now.. very peaceful except for the annoying neighbors. :)

that does look relaxing. Do you have a picture with the pavers?
