I believe that the entire time I've been a member here, the box is checked to indicate that html is off and ubbcode is enabled. This doesn't affect my posting/reading here, does it? I assume it's just how the forum is set up.

ROFL "Low priority" What would you deem a "High" priority question? Should we come up with a code? CODE GREEN question!! I should be painting and now I'm distracted. Which reminds me of something you all may find humorous. As I may have mentioned previously, we are moving. There are guys painting the exterior trim (among other things) so we can put my "urban farm" on the market. They are fully aware that the tomatoes & peppers growing in the SOUTH FACING beds up against the house are VALUABLE, and they are taking great care to not drop paint on them & so on. Such great care that THIS AFTERNOON in the HEAT of the day and blazing SUN they covered up a pot of sweet 100s with a BLACK PLASTIC BAG. Geeze. No harm done. Caught it in time. Back to low priorities...

I shouldn't laugh, but, HAHAHA! BTW, while I mostly grow heirloom tomatoes, I picked up a sweet 100 this year, and I've had several tom's from it, It's absolutely, superbly delicious! (And I'm told by the experts that there are many cherry 'maters that are even better.)

we don't allow html because it would make it too easy for someone to cause problems due to improper coding

Doesn't html take up a LOT of space in terms of bytes? i.e. the difference between using a program such as Microsoft Word (enriched text) or Wordpad (not enriched)?

the UBB codes are much easier and make more sense to me than HTML. Bill is right, it is really easy to mess up with HTML and it could take a long while before anyone is able to find the mistake. An html mistake *may* affect not just your post, but the whole forum - though i'm not certain. From what I know, if you mess up a UBB code, you don't really mess up your post. Your post will still show, it's just that the 'action' you are trying to accomplish won't get done and you'll be able to see the mistake on your post (Eg: if you put behind the picture URL when you attach a picture, your picture won't be seen). It'll also be easier for someone to help you correct the UBB code because they can see where the mistake is.

HTML posting would generally allow Javascript in postings, which could be missused to say allow popups from user postings, password hacking attempts, etc; it's a good idea to generally not have it at all (but some sites actually use it). UBBCode is the thing that makes the different tags work, such as: [b] - Bold
[i] - Italic
- URLs Etc etc etc. HTML posting would allow a user to "skew" the design of the forums by not "properly" closing their HTML coding; however, with UBBTags the system won't "parse" the code unless there is both an opening and closing tag.
