A small community not far from me, Unionville, always has a festival with rides, music, food and a parade. I always take the grans. Only thing is that the parade isn't unitl 1:00 and my grandson thinks that's the best part so we roast. Hopefully tomorrow it won't be so hot. Last year we all just about passed out in the heat.

that reminds me sheri....about a month ago a community not far from here sent out a flyer of similar activities....face painting, water activities for the kids, a band, some rides. geez!!! I don't remember where they said that was gonna be??? (It's probably best we be gone at least early in the day in case the b.i.l. decides to invite himself and the urchins to our house! yikes)

I read where you posted that tomorrow will be a big cooking day so I thought maybe you were having a party. Johnny won't be going with me either. He says he works in the heat a lot and he's making a choice not to be in it on his day off. Can't blame him. We'll watch fireworks tomorrow night together.

I told (suggested) to hubby, just call his brother up front. talk to him about what been going on? TELL him how the kids have been gone so much and we've been working so much that we are looking forward to just chillin with each other over the 4th weekend. wish him a nice forth of july and be done with it.
OH NO....his tactic is to not answer the phone and stalk the windows on the forth hoping they don't just show up? zoink

I hear the same from my hubby. (he doesn't want to be in the heat when he's off work)

Hope they don't show up and trap you in the house. That happened to me one time. Johnny has an obnoxious sort of friend who stops by once in a while, usually to ask for money. He nor his wife work and that makes me mad because we both work and they want our money. He called Johnny night before last and asked if he'd ask the church to give them some food. They're not sick. Just lazy. Anyway, sometimes he'll see my car in the driveway and stop by. So one day I was home for lunch and he rang the bell. I didn't answer the door and he sat and waited outside forever. Finally Johnny called me and told me that Bob had called him and told him my car was in the drive but I wasn't answering the door. Johnny told him he didn't know where I was. I was late going back to work because he sat in our driveway forever. They have to pass our house to get into town and they will drive to WalMart and then stop by our house on the way home and ask for gas money to be able to get home. Makes me so mad. They have other people that they hit up all the time because like I said, neither one of them hit a lick.

yea, but I just like to spoil my fam. I always go overboard on holidays. I always have to cook something special. I do wish we were having a party though. that would be loads of fun. it seems everyone we would really like to have over have plans with their own fam. I wish our fam was tolerable.

OH gosh, sheri! I know people like that, belive me! I call them 'give-me's'. we have several that live up the street from us. If someone needs help...someone that is trying and just going through hard times....we help. we've helped alot of people out, even when it's put us in a bind. but those give-me'ers (I just made up a new word!he he) I do NOT have a prob saying a polite 'no' to. and still they wait....like your gonna give them a reason why.
OOHHHH....don't get me started.

I don't blame you carol. You should go and enjoy your fireworks. I'm bummed out this year with the dryness and restrictions on fireworks. I like to do my own. I don't enjoy much watching others put on a show. I like to DO the show! lol

when the kids were small we would buy a few rockets to fire for them and then buy snakes, sparklers & such.--and then once i n awhile we would go to tha areas ones put on professionally.

that is what I am going to do on Saturday night. There is a town close to mine that fires them off over their little lake, everyone just sits on the park grounds & watches---they even have a few stands for drinkis & a sandwich or 2

Just dropping in at long last. I feel so often like I'm the Invisible Woman here that I'm never sure whether I should post or not!

My town has fireworks every Thursday night throughout the summer and then a bigger display on July 4th and Labor Day too, as the end of the Season. We love fireworks.

I am not sure why you feel invisible. Merme. I always try to answer you.
We have no special plans for the Fourth. I will decorate our golf cart in red, white and blue and Ted and I will ride in a small parade. It is already blue and white so that is an easy task. Then burgers and friends around the grill. Keeping it small.
Fireworks are banned here because of fire danger. I hope no idiots go nuts with them and start something.

That reminded me that Jonni has been taking my cart and she is dreadful about putting it on the charger. Then while I was out there I decided I should rinse it off tonight so it will be dry for decorating tomorrow. And of course while I am standing there with a hose in hand I should water my sago palm, right?
I think I ought to go to bed before I think of something else I need to do. But it is so pleasant to do things in the cool of the night.

I ain't doing anything special for 4th of July.We can't buy fireworks since we don't have the money to buy them because of the recession. I'll just watch the skies and make sure no bottlerockets head towards my house.

I love fireworks too grin I used to live close to Ranger Stadium where they always have an awesome firework display and I could see it all from my drive way. Now I live so far away from there, but live near a Lake where they also have a fireworks display BUT, because of the trees I can only see faint colors in the sky in a distance,, maybe I'll just watch it on tv instead why

Di ~ today we are finishing up getting him ready for camp. We will have our holiday burgers this evening and he has his usual sparklers to light. We always save a few boxes from today's doings so he has some left for New Year's Eve also.

Tomorrow is our big trip to take him to camp, so time is of the essence today.

Oh That's right he does leave out tomorrow grin
'making a list and checking it twice?? lol Is he taking a disposable camera??
Hey ya can't have a 4th of July with out special hamburgers or hotdogs!
I'm going to grill Hotdogs again,, I did earlier this week But I think I'll do it again today. Yesterday I marinated porkchops, so I'll throw those on the grill too,, and grill some pineapple slices. I was going to make potato salad but it's just too hot to boil tater's in the house. I'll probably go to the store and get some ready made and doctor it up a bit. I made some strawberry jello with angelfood cake and fresh strawberries cut up in it grin

I'm coming to your house to eat, Diane! lol

When I was a kid in the days before home air conditioning, my mom always made potato salad the night before. I always wondered why she did that until I got older & realized she was avoiding the heat of the day. Back then, you couldn't just go to the store & buy ready made. Which is also how I "cheat the heat" sometimes today.

I've never done marinated pork chops on the grill, but it sure sounds yummy! In the past I have made aluminum foil envelopes and stuffed them with chops, sliced potatoes, onions & mushrooms and put the foil packs on the grill. That was pretty darn good.

Did you poke holes in your angelfood cake & pour the jello down in it to set to make a layer of jello on top and streaks of jello down through the cake? Or did you cut up the cake and mix it in?

Popping in to say hi before I shower and get ready to go over to our friends' house for a BBQ. Myrna is Puerto Rican, and her sisters and their families will be there - she is one of 8 children - her 2 brothers and families can't make it this year. The point of my mentioning that she is Puerto Rican is that there is always some food or other that we might not have eaten before here, and it is usually very yummy!

I made a large graham cracker/applesauce/jello cake (thanks Diane!) to bring over - chocolate graham crackes and strawberry/strawberry banana jello. YUMMY again!

It's a much cooler, yet still cloudy day today. It was supposed to be sunnier and warmer, but right now it is only 70 and very breezy. I don't think I'll be able to wear the sleeveless top I had planned on - I am freezing sitting in this room right now!!!

All your dinners sound delicious! I hope you all have a fun day, and that everyone stays safe too.

It will be outside in their large yard - so long as it doesn't rain for a change, and their yard is pretty shadey, so I think I'll be needing a light sweater today.

No fireworks for us tonight - we did that this past Sunday at the community college - I do have some pictures to post of Herman's Hermits and the parachuters, but will have to wait for a bit when I have more time.
