Hmmm? You'd think i'd know right? well...as my one lonely melon developes and it looks like this one might make it prayers, i may have to confess as to how this melon came to be....shortly after i moved in these town houses and just as spring was arriving, i noticed a odd looking seedling growing on my lawn, a closer examination led me to believe it was some kind of melon so i dug out around it and found it still had a seed casing that looked like the seed you'd find inside a cantaloupe so i assumed it was one. But now that i've had one survive more than a few days w/o turning yellow...i'm beginning to wonder about this one's parentage. blush Never the less i have become attached to this 6 ft long seedling even though its origins may be questionable, maybe someone else could give me confirmation as i have never grown melons b4 either grin http://www.flickr.com/photos/40139263@N06/sets/72157621035157410/

Sure looks like a melon to me, but I have no idea what kind!

The plant doesn't look anything like cantaloupe to me;the plant looks like a pumpkin plant! The flowers are way too big for cantaloupe or any kind of melon.

Too big? I don't think so, but I still haved trouble ID'ing melons, squash, cukes, etc. until the fruit begin to mature. It could be one of the odd, round zucchinis, but at this oint, it's just as likely a cantalope. i think the leaves are the right shape. It won't take long to start developing the typical skin if it is a cantalope.
