Ok, here is Maxi at 10:30 this morning just getting ready to get in the truck to leave for camp. I am in the passenger seat.
Several hours later, this is Maxi being silly at the camp for the camera.
The last photo for this post is of the beautiful Lake Magunticook where the camp is nestled on the hillside above.
Merme PS I am having trouble resizing photos on Photobucket. Can anyone help me?
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
I truly don't know how this thread posted. When I hit 'submit', the screen went blank & I got a message "stopped". I had to x out of Banter, re-open Firefox and come back. Later I saw that it had posted! Now how odd is that?!

I had meant to get Maxi a haircut before he left but ran out of time. He is going to be VERY shaggy when he returns in 4 weeks. The director told me she has scissors if it gets too bad and Maxi laughed.
But oh dear, he really does need a cut.

I just typed a second post with three more photos from photobucket. But instead of my three photos it copied the last photo of the lake three times here! So, I tried again. All it will copy/paste is the lake photo.

You know I've got to say I really like his shirt and yes he will be a little shaggy in 4 weeks but that's ok. He's on vacation. It's allowed. Looks like a beautiful place. Hope you can get the other pics posted.
In this photo, Maxi was trying to get you a photo of the cabins in the trees on the other side of the lot. He took it at such a distance, sensitive to the fact that kids were up at the cabins changing into swim wear. If you look behind the small group of people on the far side of the lot, you will see the start of one of the trails leading up to the cabins.
This second photo Maxi took of the Bell Tower in the center of the camp buildings. They ring it for meetings and meals. The ancient bell itself was donated to the camp but it cost a fortune to build the tower & have the bell lifted and properly mounted. The kids all learn to ring it. I remember Maxi's first day at camp for an Open House (age 8) trying to learn how to ring that bell. He was so proud when it finally rang!
This is Maxi's Self Portrait. The reason for the funny look on his face is because he was trying to look Serious and Angel kept telling him to smile! He is too polite to argue w/ an adult, so he tried to compromise with a tiny smile but a serious face. Silly kid.

The shirt was a recent gift from his cousin in NJ. She is as patriotic as we are and knew he'd love it, too!

Thank you, Diane. I will try to resize myself... but if I can't get it, maybe Jiffymouse can.
Sheri the camp is owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Maine although it is not a religious camp. Kids from many countries, many religions attend there. The Diocese has owned it at least 100 years and it is a very popular camp. There are 80+ year olds in my parish who fondly remember attending when they were young.
The focus of this Director is teaching the children how to live in Community and how to interact & enjoy themselves without electronics of any kind.

Merme you sure posted some great pictures. Maxi looks so excited. I am sure he will have a wonderful time at Camp. You are a wonderful mom for making sure he got to go.
________
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
Sheri when the kids complain about no radios or stereos, the Director asks them what song they are missing most? When they tell her, she invites them to teach it to her & the others. When you are seated near the bell tower, you can hear kids of all ages walking through the woods singing their hearts out -- all kinds of songs! And if any kid wants to, they are welcome to bring their instrument and play, so sometimes you hear that as well.
The kids are so busy swimming, boating, playing field games, doing crafts, taking cooking classes, going on nature walks, having contests, doing dramas and games related to the "theme" of the week, I do not think they have time to miss video games, cell phones, computers, tv's, stereos, etc etc.

Sheri did you know most camps hire RN's?? The nurses I know who pick up camp nursing love it!

Diane ~ The entire camp is oriented toward the lake. Not just in terms of the activities (swimming, kayaking, fishing & exploring) but also because all the cabins in the woods overlooking the lake face it.
Everyone is terribly excited because for the second year in a row the Loons have returned to the lake! The children love observing them grow up. It is particularly exciting because the Loons had left a number of years ago and now they are back!

I dunno about napping there... remember there are 100 children all busy romping around and a large staff...

Oooooooh, I am so envious even as a 50+ old lady. I always pleaded and begged my parents to send me to camp but my Mother was one of those that no one could take care of me but her and she was sure that I might get a scratch or something. Even as an adult I wish that I had the money to start a camp. I would like one that the cabins were all tree houses.
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
I love the pics of Maxi, and the camp .. so nice to see friends in person so to speak. I think a treehouse camp would be wonderful too... I loved having one as a kid - don't think we ever slept in it though... Nana
Well, it took two separate trips to the post office, but I managed to get Maxi's things mailed off to him... just the stuff I forgot to pack! He'll be pretty miserable without his tube of After Bite, so I really wanted to get it to him! And of course, his pencil sharpener. Maxi spends a portion of each day drawing comics or cartoons to illustrate his stories and a sharp pencil is important. He took an entire pack of drawing pencils unsharpened and no sharpener! And all the post cards he needs for letter writing Tuesdays. I address all the cards for him and just give him a goodly supply for everyone he wants to write while he's away.
I am, however, usually the last person he writes to from camp! Everyone else will hear from him before I do. When I mention it after he comes home, he just chuckles. Silly kid.
