Well boy was I surprised this morning when my girl brought in yesterday's mail and there was a letter from Maxi! In a business size envelope, on a piece of his journal paper folded very small was this offering:

Hi Mom Camp is fun Hey send me Magic cards please Love Maxi


Apparently, Maxi is a man of few words.

did you get the magic cards in the mail?

Not yet, Sheri. We go shopping for them tomorrow & will send them up tomorrow afternoon. I already wrote to Maxi to tell him of the delay, so he is expecting them later in the week.

We got a deck of Magic Cards. They were $12 which indicates one reason I was unhappy he started collecting them last year! But we got a deck and mailed them right away so he should have them Thursday or Friday. He'll be pleased with them, I think!

So, is each deck....a different magic trick?

every think of sending him something that will make him laugh? since he is a man of few words.....send him a feather from the parakeet with a one sentence line?...'buttons says hi'....or a single q-tip with a note saying 'clean your ears'? ....or a few grains of sand...and say.....'????'

I know it's not cheap to mail anymore. but, I'm cracking myself up over here thinking of strange simple objects you could send with a one sentence note attached!

Cricket ~ No, the cards aren't magic tricks. Magic Cards ... also known as "Magic The Gathering" is a complicated game played by teens & adults. It's been around since 1993.

Each player owns his own deck and players work hard at collecting a great deck through buying cards and trading them.

The game itself isn't easy to play. Invented by a mathematics professor, Magic Cards is a series of battles involving wizards, spells and fantasy creatures. Although some people who enjoy role playing games like Magic Cards, it is more highly regarded by strategic gamers.

Younger players enjoy the cards themselves because of the artwork, the intrigue, and the joy of collecting them whether or not they understand the complexities of the game play.

now that you've explained it, it seems like I've heard about those cards before.

Today I got TWO postcards from Maxi!!! I am delighted!

In one of them he told me he got a haircut and new shoes. I was startled because I couldn't figure out how that happened because I certainly didn't arrange it.

So I called the camp & spoke w/ the director. She laughed & told me she'd cut Maxi's hair by herself & that it looks very nice. As long as he can now see where he is going, that's good. And she said his right sneaker totally disintegrated -- the top separating from the sole! So she drove him to a Reny's (discount) store and got him a new pair.

She also took the time to tell me he is doing great ... keeping busy and having a blast. She also laughed & said he's been telling people she is "out to get him" because she keeps reminding him to pull his pants up! I cracked up and said "Good for you, Georgia! I tell him that all the time!"


I'm glad he is having so much fun.

it DOES sound like he's have a blast. georgia sounds like a very caring and responsible person.

Actually, Cricket, Georgia is wonderful! She's been director up there for about 35 years and has such a big heart for the children ... really caring about them as individuals and their family situations. I can't think of a better person to be in charge of the place my son loves to visit. I'm not so sure I'd be willing to let him go if someone less able was in charge!

Glad to hear Maxi is having a great time at camp!!

Georgia probably thinks of the campers as her own children or grand children. It's great that she's so caring and that Maxi feels so comfortable with her. She must be comfortable with you too Merme to cut your sons hair without calling first. I like her.
