This morning I woke with a headache again. I am fairly sure that it has more to do with weather than anything else. So I decided not to take my son to school and stick around the house working in the cool of the morning. I have water going now. I bought 500 feet of new tubing to redo part of my sprinkler system. I laid that out to let the sun take out the curl. And three new soaker hoses as well. So my back road is lined with hoses basking in the sunlight. Maybe I can get on top of my gardening and beautification projects this year. They have been sadly neglected over the last couple years and weather beaten as well.

I am sorry, Nana. That stinks.
I have the tubing laid out up on top of the cliff side now. And I found out I had an orange on our navel orange tree. I had to take a break and come in, cut it up and eat it. Sweet! We have had this tree for about 10 years. We have transplanted it four times looking for a happy place for it where it could get both enough sunshine and enough water. I think we found its home now. This was the first fruit.

Too bad about the pool. There's always the truck, though!

Cool about the orange. I have 1 lemon & 1 grapefruit. I'm pretty happy with that since the trees are in pots and only about 3 years old.

Spud, our groundhog, ate two bites out of the first German Johnson tomato. John was none too happy. John says, "at least on the farm we'll be able to shoot them." Ha. I don't know if I could shoot a groundhog. Shoot at, sure. But not shoot to kill. Even if it was eating my tomatoes. Squirrel, maybe. (Brunswick stew.) But what would you do with a dead groundhog?

Paint. Paint. Paint...

Tina, how do you know how to do all the stuff you do?

Maybe you won't have groundhogs on the farm Marica. But BB's work nicely. Have you really put squirrel in Brunswick stew?

Good morning (afternoon for a lot of you I guess)! We took a little vacation last week. We left Thursday and came home Monday. Went back to work yesterday and still seem to be catching up and trying to get back into the swing of things. Having daycare issues now too and trying to figure out who will watch Tristen tomorrow and Friday. boohoo

A lot like your medical stuff, Sheri. When you have an interest you read, you watch, you try. You fail. You reorganize and try again. And also a lot like any gardening things.
The sprinklers I use are kind of useless to read about here. There is a lot of math involved in figuring out water pressure and water coverage. But I don't have a lot of water pressure because our water system is just gravity fed. If I tried putting a pump on it I would be blowing the existing water system sky high all over the place because it isn't geared for pressure. So I fiddle around and revamp stuff all of the time. and it ages or clogs up and needs redoing.
The last two winters were very cold for us and really did a job on my cliff sprinklers. We need to get water to things here because we do not have enough rain water to really keep things going. And even the native stuff becomes a fire danger if left unattended and not irrigated.
When I want hot water in the house I have to turn off water outside. We have an on-demand hot water heater that won't kick on if there isn't enough pressure to start it.

And I was married to an agriculture teacher who never stopped teaching even after retiring. That was very informative when I wasn't too irritated with the long lectures in answer to a simple question. On some of the stuff I wish I had taken notes now. But the sprinklers I use, I know more about than he did. And I am a much better cook.

Hello Jessica. I was writing while you were posting. I am sorry you have child care issues. That is one of the toughest parts of parenting and working, I think. I took in foster kids when my first batch of kids were younger so I avoided that. And so I could be home with all of the kids.

I wish I could be home with Tristen all the time but unfortunately that is not an option for us. My mom watched Tristen for the first 4 years of his life and it was great. He has been in daycare for 3 years and we have had nothing but issues. I can't wait until we can be done with daycare!!

I used a crowbar and got my daughter into her car and out to get us some lunch. I just ate and am feeling like going out and playing in the mud again. Or napping. I cannot nap now. I have an appointment to meet a some workers at my daughter's rental at noon. No rest for the wicked I guess. Maybe a nap when I get back from that. It will be too hot to work outside then any way.

I can't take it anymore. And yet... arughhh. The sad part of this is that I know we are going to find just the perfect little farmhouse. And it's going to need repainting.

[See me banging head on desktop. over & over & over &... ]

At least John & I are spending quality time tripping over each other.

And no, BoF (Bestofour), as a Southerner I am ashamed to say I have never eaten Brunswick stew with squirrel. John does have recipes for it though!

Take a nap for me, Tina!

I think you should paint the dead ground hog in psychodelic colors, nail it to the wall, and leave it as a memento for the new tennants in your current home.

If some people eat possom, why not ground hog???

speaking of critters....my dogs drug up two baby skunks last week. man oh man, and the puppy's breath STILL smells like skunk. EEEWWWW!

will you have big dogs on your farm, marica? they tend to bring up all kind of interesting dead critters for you.

Cricket, on our farm it was the cats who'd bring us their kill so we could praise them & tell them what great kitties they were. That was really hard to do... talk all sweet & excited & happy that one of them just laid a snake or a mouse at your feet, but!

I'm grateful that Maxi's parakeet Buttons doesn't fly out to bring stuff home! lol

Oh I meant to tell y'all that recently my dialysis treatments have been going much better since the Nurse Manager figured out how to position me in the recliner. If they put the chair in the Trendelenburg position, I can go on my side and it is marvelous how that relieves the pressure off my back!

So I sit up and read for an hour; they flip the chair so I'm nearly on my head and I rest for an hour on one side; rest for another hour on the other side and by then I'm ready to be done but still have 45 minutes to go on the machine plus 20 minutes to get off of it. So I just kinda grit my teeth for the last hour but that is far better than white-knuckling it for all four hours.

glad to hear it's going better for you merme. boy, they sure put you through the ringer! I'm sorry you have to go through that so often.

I did a lot of nothing, much of the day today on my day off. but, I DID manage to restring the electric guitar. clap (first time for ever doing that and I had no idea what I was doing.....I only broke one string...???) I was very frustrated when it broke, but actually not too bad of a job since someone else had unstrung it 'for me'. I wish they'd have left it be. that way I could have studied exactly how each string went. study one, take it off, put new one on.

Man. Swearing is allowed on facebook. Thank goodness. Deep breath. It has not been a good evening.

O.k. so about the dog. Our dog, Suzy, is about to turn 15. She's a Walker Hound. A real sweetie. A huntin' dog, retired. Usually a day late & a dollar short, but she tries. I really do want a German Shepherd, but I won't get one until... well, you know. I do not want Suzy to feel as if she's not the most important "person" in our lives.

Squirrels do have brains. I've dissected them. Not pretty. I would not eat a squirrel brain if you paid me. ANd their middle ears are nasty. Filled with flukes. Yuck.

It only gets worse until it gets better. Right? I am so tired, and there's still so much to do, and the new A/C unit just flips the circuit and ... like Merme, I'm just grittin my teeth. You are an inspiration, Merme!! Thank you!

Doesn't it feel good when you learn to do something new, Cricket? A true accomplishment. I was just talking about that with someone a little while ago. Those are the days you can go to sleep with a smile on your face.

I didn't hear whining, Marica. I dislike whining, especially if it is me doing it. But a legitimate gripe is good for people to vent. And it helps to get a pat on the back and be reminded that you can't really appreciate the good stuff without knowing what the bad is like.

Cricket I'm sorry you went through so much stringing that guitar. The trouble with doing it without exactly knowing how is that you can accidentally put the strings on backwards so another guitarist reaching over to tune it would automatically turn it in the correct direction but pop the string anyway. You ought to find out if you got them on the correct way... you could just stop by any store where guitars are sold & have a look.

Marica you have so much on your plate right now, my heart goes out to you. We're here if you need us.

Hi everyone! Haven't had much time to come on here lately. Hope everybody is doing well. I'm dying in this heat. It's really not that hot, and I usually enjoy the heat, but it feels more humid this year. Of course, I did quit smoking and seems that I haven't been as a cold of a person ever since. That may be a bonus next winter but not so much right now. We all went and saw harry potter last night, slept in til noon, then I made a nice big steak breakfast. Sat around and relaxed all day, read a little, did work on my virtual farm, and then got a pan of lasagna in the oven for the fam. Don't know what I'm having for dinner yet. Maybe I'll cook up one of my turkey burgers. I don't have much going on in the garden this year, there just doesn't seem to be enough time to do much except keep the weeds from taking over. My mil will be here in a couple weeks and then a couple weeks after that we're hoping to be able to do a little vacation and take a couple of days to go see the rain forest. Plus the water/ride park as well. We didn't do the park last summer due to Ashley's broken ankle so this year we want to do 2 days. One full day on the water side and one full day on the rides side. We'll see, depends on business and how much money we have by then.

Good morning!

Today's the day I go to buy new yellow towels. I am quite certain that as soon as I come home, the old-- but still perfectly 'new looking'-- yellow towels will ... poof!!... magically appear right under my nose.

I'm amazed they haven't been moving you around all along. Is your site understaffed? When I did dialysis, which was an inpatient situation, we moved people around in their chairs constantly. We were, of course, concerned about pressure sores, but still. We used pillows stuffed here and there, blankets here and there. They should be doing everything possible to keep you comfortable. Speak with your doctor. You shouldn't have to sit even 45 minutes in one position.

once you get the new yellow towels, marica, that will be one less thing you have to worry about.

yes, merme. I know what you mean about putting the strings on backwards. that how I broke the one. I had it through the hole and wrapped it then realized it was all crocked and lumpy and wrong. when I unwound it - snap. I think I have another one on wrong too now that I"m looking at it again. the string doesn't want to stay in the groove on the neck? a friend of hubby's gave us the set of stings so no cost out of my pocket. BUT, I wish he'd have waited and SHOWED me how to do it or just dropped off the strings and let ME examine and do it myself. some people try to help TOO much - do more harm than good.

when I let the dogs out this morning, I was shocked it was not swealtering hot already. maybe the humidity is lower? it sure felt nice!

good to hear from you chermoni! wavy

Good morning! wavy

It seems that a lot of you are having a lot of heat but we are not. We have had the strangest weather this summer. We had real hot weather in May...which is unusual for here. Since then we have had a cooler than average summer with the exception of a day here and there. The high today is only 73 and tomorrow is 68. Right now we are usually in the upper 80s or in the 90s...or if it is a hot summer this is the time we would have 100 degree temps which usually happens a couple days out of the summer but don't think it is going to happen this year. I'm not really complaining because the temps are comfortable and we haven't had to have our A/C on which is great on the old pocketbook! Tristen wants to swim and run through the sprinkler and all that stuff though and this weather is not cooperating. Maybe August will be hot.....

The town where James grew up is having their town celebration this weekend so we will be spending a lot of time there I guess. Some of his mom's family from Louisiana is in town this week too so we will be doing more than normal with the family. James hasn't seen these family members in almost 20 years and I have never met them. Should be fun but I will be on family overload after a couple of days. lol

Good going, Enrique. I love fresh baked bread, too, much better than store bought!

I went out today to my back doc & feel so much better. My girl ran to the bank & the grocery store while I was being seen to save us some time.

All my slipcovers are washed, dried, and back on the furniture. That is always SUCH a big, hateful job, I'm always relieved to get it done.

Jessica I do so hope you'll have a great time with James's family. Can't wait to hear all the details.

Gotta fix something for lunch & then get out of my chair for a while so I don't undo all the good work the doc did while I was there!

See you all later.

Well, gee, I don't know how in the heck this went through so fast, but I just got a call saying I will get an entirely new wheelchair tomorrow after 5. Just a couple days ago everyone was saying it was going to be at least a month! YAY!

Merme *looking forward to spinning on happy wheels*

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I awoke a little late for me this morning so my day started in a bit of a rush. But I ended up getting out of the house a little early so I hung around Ted's school and visited for a wee bit. I came home and found I had a hose that had sprung a leak. So I went back out to Lowe's and Home Depot to get a couple new ones. That is always fun. I have so many things to plant out as soon as I can get the ground in order and sprinkler systems all up and going. I am working on this too.
