Just me, popping in to say "hi" before I begin my day.

I wish everyone a good day. The weather is beautiful here--about 66*F with a slight cool breeze. Most certainly MY idea of July in the midwest!!!!!

I had been planning to do that, Diane, but there was the issue of which color. So I wrote and asked him & he did say black. But then when I went again to the web sites there were two different types of black PLUS the various color cases. So now I think I will wait til he is home and can select for himself!

HI and BYE Carol Jean!

65 here today and raining again.

morning all!
just popping in to take a break from cleaning the kitchen. ewww, what a mess! hubby and the kidos took off to auto zone to get brakes for my car. yippy! me and the other drivers on the road will be safe once again.
that stinks you had to rewash the sofa cover. something similar happens to me every time I mop the kitchen. not an hour goes by before someone spills something on it!
theres a b-day bbq thing down the street later on this afternoon. if it was at anyone elses house I'd love to go, but I don't care for these people much. I might just have a quiet day to myself if everyone else goes.

Hi Cricket! I'm glad you are getting your brakes done. YAY you! A quiet day might be nice.

Yes, I was unhappy about the slip cover too, especially since rewashing it made me fat!

In the last CH I explained....

I had to stay up very late to wash the slipcover, which meant I had to sleep in, which meant I woke up starving, which meant I ate a big breakfast which made me fat! So it is entirely the slipcovers fault that I gained weight today! haha

Impeccable logic, that!

OOHHH........I get it! haha
I thought it might be something like that.
actually, after I posted 'what' I was picturing you eating out of the vending machine while you were waiting on the slip covers to get done.

the fam is back from picking up my brakes, and picked up two extra kidos on the way back home. it will be a full house for lunch today....and a loud one. lol

Will you send them all to the birthday bbq down the street, Cricket?

I don't go to a laundrymat unless I have something huge... I learned that last year when I came home from the hospital and found my comforter stuffed into my super sized washer and had to Sumo wrestle it out of there, with Tina's help! lol

haha got a real visual of you sumo wrestling the comforter.

my son doesn't want to stay long at the bbq party. it is a little girls b-day party. So, now were figuring on hubby and my daughter going in the car and me and my son riding bikes down there, so we can leave when we want to. works for me. the humidity doesn't seem AS bad as it has been, so the ride down and back shouldn't be too too bad. I started feeling bad about just not going at all. this little girl lives with her dad and older brother who's barely even a teenager anymore. and, there are not a lot of kids direcly around her house so she really doesn't have many kids to play with. hubby and kids picked her up a doll from the dollar store and I'm about to go out now and pick her some zinnea's. she doesn't get much girly stuff/attention.

That sounds like a good plan, Cricket!

I understand the situation you've described about the little girl. I have met other little girls in similar circumstances, and I always like to try to "girlie up" their lives a little bit... it is amazing how such small feminine touches can mean the world to a child like that!

Well Cricket you have to understand that my comforter is a King size. It was wet and jammed into the washer. Tina told me the trick for releasing it. So there I was, balanced on one foot, seeking the 2 inches that were caught under the rim and when I found it, and gave a tug, the whole thing came flying out! I landed in my wheelchair with this monster sized wet comforter piled over my head!! lol

Then I could barely shove the thing into the dryer and it took several cycles to dry!

It wasn't until later that my friends told me they either wash the comforters at the laundry using the triple loader OR they send it out for dry cleaning! The expense of doing that is, apparently, off set by the wear & tear on one's own appliances.

I never would have crammed it into my washer in the first place, but I figured I would go ahead and wash it since it was already in there. zoink

Today I am sorting and getting rid of papers. I have no idea how so many papers accumulate! It is maddening!

If I were to have a nightmare about a gruesome monster chasing me, it would probably be an oversized living mound of papers! haha

I wrote a big long response, then my computer locked up so I had to shut 'er down. maybe for the best. it was a bit too yackety yackety bla bla anyway.

hubby went to run and errand, we're waiting on him to get back so we can deliver this gift and make a showing down the street at the bbq. it seems now, no one here wants to hang long down there. I did get wind that the b-day girl has some cousins and such showing up, so the pressure is off that we stay and hang too long.

I am just barely here. It never cooled off enough to go out to do any work around this evening. So I didn't. But my eyes are gritty from blowing wind (fans) so it is time to close them. Good night all.

just checking in before I too go to bed, tina. It has been beautiful weather here though I must say. Right now it is 63*F (midnight) I think the high today was like 74 or so.

Hopefully I will have enough spare time to talk to you all a bit tomorrow. It has been a busy place around here (my house) these last few days.

Good night all wavy

Nana I'm glad you are home after your very fun time. The extra bonus of the party sure is cool. Can't wait to see pictures. The places you go always sound so lovely.

Carol Jean I'm glad you are having good weather. Hope to see more of you soon.

Tina it is a shame your heat is so intemperate. But I think it is great you know how to set limits about it and don't make yourself sick!

Safe away home, O my palies, and sweet dreams to you all.

Good morning, folks. I enjoyed reading about your Saturdays, and look forward to Nana's photos. Our Saturday was gruesome. We are now down to the wire on the house. The whole thing is complicated b/c we're leaving tomorrow for Mississippi, so there's no "putting off" the small stuff, there's just a lot of cramming stuff out of sight!

On a good note, late yesterday evening, after some delicious burgers on the grill (more on this shortly*), one of our favorite songs came on and-- and we were both so tired and bored with all this cleaning & painting stuff-- we just stopped and danced in the kitchen. Ahhhh. Sorry to be mushy, but it reminded us of why we're doing all this.

*Despite all the chaos, John refuses to stop cooking. This is a good thing. Yesterday he "informed" me that I had to get the kitchen done b/c he had to grind up some meat for burgers. A top round, I believe. They were awesome.

Lord. He's already started working and of course he needs direction-- "Marica! Where does this go??"-- and now I hear the contractor/painter pulling up the drive. I guess the day is starting.

Have a great day, all!

Good morning. It never cooled off to my satisfaction overnight. But this morning is kind of nice. I will enjoy it while I can.
I really have no major plans for my day. A little laundry maybe. It is not laziness hitting me but the heat making me hide.

it hit me hard yesterday and I proudly didn't fight it haha
But this morning I got up earlier than the norm for a sunday it's only 10:15 and everything is done except one more load in the dryer.
I even made potato salad this morning, sweeping , mopping. dusting all checked off the list, and Emmy got her bath. Dwight is going to grill meat pretty soon before the heat of the day engulfs us.
Speaking of Girlie things,, I need to come up with some little gifts for my granddaughter that will be back here the end of the Month with My daughter from KS. They don't need anything and my daughter said "MOM Don't get the girls anything ,, they don't need anything,"
Come on Now,, she's Kidding Right?? What grandma doesn't get small gifts for their grandkids when seeing them is few and far between? True they were just here a few weeks ago, But I hadn't seen them for 3 years before that, No telling after this last visit when I'll see them again boohoo. any suggestions for small gifts for a 6 and 7 yr old,, that doesn't need anything and won't take up space when packing to go home??

Marica,, How sweet you two danced in the kitchen,,, the magic of Love prevails thru all your packing and renovating,, that's awesome :ding:

How about a book? Maybe you could start them off with the first of a series. And not a paperback, but something classic & timeless that they can cherish. Then whenever you feel like it, you could add to the collection. And it could be something they could grow into-- first their mom could read to them, then later they'd look forward to a new volume they could read themselves. American Girls (?) is a nice collection and there are dolls & clothes and stuff to go along with the books. All of those Narnia books are fun. Nancy Drew. The Hobbit series.

Thanks for the suggestion ,, I thought about that Marica,,, I know they enjoyed a fairy book I read them while here a few weeks ago,,, I'd have to see what type of Books they are interested in IF any, My daughter lives in a small apartment and doesn't have a lot of room for compiling books, so I don't know if starting a series is a good idea at this point, But maybe a activity book with peel stickers to place elsewhere in the book for the 8 hour ride home would be a good idea one with interactive quiet play involved??

It was 55 here last night and a whopping 77 right now. I am sweltering! Plus it is a bit too humid, also.

I just don't know how you girls tolerate living in truly high heat areas!

I think if I had a choice of sweltering heat and months of freezing temps I'd take the sweltering heat

Months of freezing isn't bad. You can always add a layer and stay warm outside. When it is sweltering hot, you can strip down to your skin and still be hot!

There are other accommodations for the cold weather. If you plan to play outside, you wear special gear to keep you warm and dry. Otherwise, you make sure you have a road-worthy car w/ good tires and a good heater. People do tend to keep their homes snug in whatever ways seem best to them.

Then, the first sunny sorta warm day early in the spring, you see hundreds of people outside with their faces turned up, enjoying the light and the "warmth". And neighbors you may not have seen most of the winter are suddenly chatty! lol

I was raised in KS where the winds of winter was bitter cold almost unbearable, snow drifts up to your waist, ice storms knocking out power lines for days, So months of COLD and Winter ,,No thank you,, as why I've never moved back home,, I don't think I could take the cold like that again, since I've moved here 15 years ago,, I've gotten thin skin and don't take cold well at all. At least when it's hot one can find a pool or a hose to splash around in and cool off ,, or take a cold shower and lay in front of a fan, lol Bad thing about so much heat here are the outside plants you have to watch suffer and struggle to get thru june- the end of august, boohoo that's what hurts boohoo
once one gets used to an environment, it's hard to imagine adjusting to an extreme of another one.
I will have to say tho I do miss seeing snow fall softly.. it's a rare treat here.

I've never been in Kansas in the dead of winter, Diane. You description is interesting!

In the Midwest, pansies are really springtime flowers because they burn up in the summer sun. My family was shocked the first time they visited me in August and saw my pansies flourishing as the front line of my full-sun garden! lol

But it IS a trade-off because we can't grow really delicious tomatoes here. Shhh!
Don't say that too loudly in front of a Mainiac, though; they think they grow great tomatoes. But I can guarantee you they ain't anything near as yummy as what you grow in warmer climates where the nights stay hot and the sun is stronger. You just can't get that juicy sweetness up here.

I got a bunch of cleaning done today and filled up trash bags galore. Now I am exhausted and plan to just go stretch out for a bit.

Sorry I'm going to miss the water balloon fight, but.
