Wondering if anyone here might be able to help me figure out what this shrub/tree is likely to be. For years I've been under the (probably false) illusion that it was a jasmine shrub, but having just bought one of those this year, it's totally different so now utterly lost as to what it may be.

Appreciate any suggestions I could further investigate perhaps - need to figure out if it's a tree rather than a shrub as it's beginning to grow upwards more than I'm happy about. nervous Thanx.

Welcome Ha Tikvah. Has it ever bloomed? Almost any shrub like this could probably use some pruning to keep in a better shape and size for your needs.

No, it's not yet bloomed and is at least 4-5 years old. I did prune it somewhat a year or two ago, but then thought perhaps it needed some growth on it first to bloom so left it alone this year. Without knowing what it is I really didn't want to do much in case I made things worse for it rather than better - it's been growing fairly well despite the small 8-10" pot. grin
