I am curious as to if I can cut my lilies back to about 3" now that they have stopped blooming. This is my first post and I don't know if I am doing it correctly. Help, please.

You did it properly posting correctly........

I never cut my lilys back till they dry out .
I think just like tulips and daffodils, the lily has to get its food from the sunshine till it turns brow. Some do it to pick the seeds if there are any.

Thanks so much for answering my post. I have never cut them all the way back but I like my beds clean. Some other plants ie: columbine and siberian iris will just grow new foliage. I have to keep pulling out dead and yellowing leaves...I probably have fungus or something. Anyway, thanks for your answer.

As my daylillies die back they have yellowing and dead leaves too. Have you been in a drought? That makes a difference in how bad they look toward their end.

I think we all like our beds neat..
Nut mom nature has some plants the need the food from sun before the tops die.
Your doing the correct thing, just remove the brown leaves. Let mom nature have her way.. You will be rewarded.

RIght now my Black berry lilys are starting to open.. I started those from seed.
Little but cute.

Just ask any question here, we like to answer..
