Hi, thanks for your help. It's hot and it's almost time for me to start on dinner. Not much looking forward to that but I'll survive.

Yes it is hot and I am not cooking. I am not even microwaving anything tonight. Hot food doesn't sound good at all

Found the veges in the wheel barrow. Also found the keys to the outside building that I had laid in a chair. I think it was too hot and I didn't know what I was doing. (have to blame it on something)
Gosh Merme. How can you make it without coffee. If I'm out of Pepsi it's an emergency!!!

I'm aggravated about the coffee, Sheri. I sent her to the grocery store on Thursday and she helped me make the shopping list. She opened cabinets and the ice box to check on supplies and never mentioned the coffee shortage! And, since she took Saturday off, there wasn't anything to be done about it when I got up yesterday and saw how little there was left. This girl is nice and is a CNA and working on her PCA but she has virtually no homemaking skills of any kind and homemaking is at least 1/2 of the job. I'm disappointed she doesn't have the full skill set to do her work... not to mention all the ruined food we've had to throw away from her lack of skill in the kitchen.
Sheri I totally believe you about the heat affecting your mental processes. That's how I get in high heat also.
Once, I think I almost went crazy, really crazy from the heat! Maxi was about 18 months old and it was before we got a/c in our cottage. One day it was so miserably hot and there was no breeze of any kind and so our 17 windows were useless. Maxi always napped after lunch and I couldn't wait until he woke up so we could get out of there! At his first sign of wakefulness, I grabbed him out of the crib, popped him in the stroller and OUT! the door we went. I'm telling you, I was RUNNING down our street the two blocks to Saco Ave. I knew once we were on the beach side of Saco Ave, it would be at least 10 degrees cooler, and it was. I took a big deep breath and stopped running. I walked fast, though, and each step closer to the beach was cooler and cooler and the breeze was really blowing down there. It was GREAT! We stayed down there til 10 PM, putting our jackets on when the sun went down. Relief! But I swear I will never forget the image of myself running down the street like a crazy person pushing that stroller. I just couldn't think rationally!
I'm off to stretch out for a while.

sorry about the coffee situation merme! I know what that is like. actually you got me thinking......I haven't drank any coffee in the past 2 months. its just so hot! I get up craving a cup, but after a couple of sips I start sweating and want water. I quit drinking soft drinks a couple of months ago too. in this heat, they make me sick at my stomach - too much sugar. NO WONDER, i'm tired and cranky all the time. I bet most of that has to do with the fact my body is craving some caffine! I heard some thunder and we had some nice wind, diane when I was outside earlier. I kept watering my garden just the same. good thing. not a drop yet. but we still have a chance of rain for the next 3 days. at least that is a step better than the forcast we were getting 'zero percent chance'. I put out my yellow squash and zuch squash seedlings in the garden today. I fretted over when to plant them for a possible fall crop. I counted days and counted days. I didn't want to put them out till the temps dropped below 95, which we aren't quite there yet....almost. but the days to maturity was putting them too close to our first freeze. anyway........ seeds are cheap! this is an experiment! it will be interesting...... and a big OH YEA! on how the heat can make you loose your mind and forget things!

No rain in sight here anytime in the near future. Very unusual hot, dry, weather for us. It's only supposed to get worse over the next 4 days. We'll make it, always do when we get these heat wave days. Cooking dinner wasn't too bad. I was able to at least get out of the kitchen while the chicken and corn boiled. Tomorrow the kids are being taken out to dinner and going to a baseball game with their grandpa so it's just Aros, his mom, and me for dinner. We're going out too. Maybe greek food, haven't decided yet. I started drinking less coffee, and with it being warm in the house when I wake up it makes me sweat too and can't drink much. I do, however, have to have my caffeine so I started buying chai tea concentrate and make myself iced chai lattes in the morning. I'm so fancy! Tomorrow it's back to work, hopefully I'll be able to sleep better tonight and get my butt up early enough to do my exercise in the morning. Have a good night!

it seems everyone is asleep by now. I should get there myself, but it has been such a crazy day with the kids at each others throats. now, it 10pm and they are playing so wonderful with each other. I should tell them lights out, but no school and no where for them to go first thing in the morning....and they ARE getting along. I'm stalling enjoying eavesdropping on their quiet chatter and laughter!

I get the heat getting to you too and the lack of caffeine would be an emergency for me too- tea does have some but for some reason not enough to get rid of the headache I get from caffeine withdrawel... I fed the boys early tonight and now they are all hungry again- guess we will have a snack before bed... which will be soon.. my nephew called and said they would be here tomorrow night- so spent day cleaning up that room. dusting and vacumming and such... what a mess- it's such a catch all anymore-.. but it is nice and clean now... Well off to make a snack- and fill up the airbeds for the 2 little ones... and I need to iron tonight for Joe to have workcloths tomorrow- think I will need a pain pill after that.... we got rain last night too... nice over and inch they said- will green up the yard nicely... Good morning. I crashed last night after a nap-less day and overslept this morning. That is OK because Ted is a little sick and not attending school today. He was up in the night coughing. So I don't have his school clock to run my schedule today. That means I can work in the cool of the morning without taking that hour to drive him to school. First cup. But heading towards the second soon.

Boy you folks stay up late!
I slept in until 9am this morning. We didn't get back from Mississippi until about 8pm Friday, then up bright & early doing some critical projects that I can't even remember, then up yesterday painting the dining room (red) and finishing up. Then the open house which was a bust in my opinion. First, we get kicked out. O.k. fine. Then & unbeknownst to us, the neighbor up the street has some sort of family reunion and there was no parking at all anywhere. So only three people came to the open house. I wonder if some just drove past. Oh well. I do not like this idea of not being here when the house is being shown. I get that we shouldn't be sticking our noses in the tour, but as a home buyer, I always liked to chat with the home owner. Perhaps-- once again-- this just illustrates how weird I am.
Anyway-- today I do nothing except stuff I want to do!
About the coffee. Our market has stopped carrying the brand we like, but fortunately, we can order it on line. I could not due without my morning coffee. I become quite an unpleasant person. It only happens when we travel b/c we keep 3-4 cans stocked up. Do you all like iced coffee? I love a big glass of sugared iced coffee about 10 or 11 after I come inside. Very refreshing. Almost as good as sweet tea.
And now off to refill my cup and take a very leisurely stroll around the garden & the blogosphere.
Oh! I noticed yesterday that the lemon tree is blossoming again! WooHooo!!

Some of us are westcoasters, Marica. So when it shows that we may be posting at midnight on your computer, it is really only 9 pm here. Barely after sundown. I dislike the idea of strangers running amok in my house when I am not home. And as a home buyer I would rather chat with the owners too. The 'being out of the house' thing is so the realtor can do their sales pitch uninterrupted. And maybe so you don't toss perspective buyers out when they say, "How could anyone paint a dining room red?" My lemon tree and kumquat tree are blooming too. What a heavenly smell. Nana, you are super busy these days. Keep cool. Kids love to dig. They are not so fond of filling back in though. That starts looking like work then.

Five hours and no one else has been around the coffee house. I have been working. I am getting happier and happier about my outdoor things and the way they are coming along. I feel a little safer from fires every day. And it is just looking cleaner and fresher out there all of the time. I am not nearly finished and it is really a job that is never finished. But it is coming along to a place where it will be easier to maintain. And I have some bonus firewood from some of my labors. Everything out there has been sadly neglected the last couple of years.

Right. Left coasters. I wasn't thinking-- which is happening a lot these days. You did make me chuckle with the red dining room comment!
Right now it's iced coffee & a brownie.

Hi, I'm home. Marcia I watch Real Estate TV every day.... more than I watch anything else. You'd be surprised at how many times the homeowners accidentally blow the entire sale by saying the wrong thing to the prospective buyer! Plus, people do tend to get emotionally attached to their homes, particularly if they've put much sweat equity into it or have lived there for a long time. As for me, if I were a buyer, I would not want the homeowner to be present... I'd be too likely to blurt out something like "what in the world were you thinking when you painted all that magnificent 120 year old woodwork with black enamel paint?!" If something leaves me aghast, I'm likely to blurt! Then the Realtor would be left trying to smooth it over by either supporting the homeowners choice of black enamel woodwork & trim & crown moldings OR reassuring me in front of the homeowner how easy & inexpensive it would be to return it all to its original glory! Not so good, either way. I did once, by the way, live in a beautiful Victorian home in Cincinnati (Mt. Adams) whose previous owners did the black enamel paint throughout the interior woodwork, trim & crown pieces. I got a letter from Maxi today. He is so ready to be home! I think the extra week may have been a little too much for him. Merme

Oh! I totally understand why the homeowner shouldn't be home-- or poking around while people are looking. And I do appreciate that it would make some people uncomfortable if the owners were about. I'm just saying that I get my knickers in a knot thinking about a bunch of yahoos traipsing around poking into things they have no business poking into. But since I do want to sell the house quickly, I will get over this. And as a side-- real-- worry, I do wonder about the security of all of this. I can't believe that-- I mean I *can* believe it but I'm shocked about the trim, Merme. Just like out leaded glass pantry cabinets. Shameful. Those houses up on Mt. Adams are so lovely. Criminal in my opinion!! I did absolutely nothing this afternoon. And I am not feeling the least bit guilty! Now it's off to dig the onions. Maybe. If I feel like it. :-) I posted a photo album of the house & the garden. Photos taken today. It's here, http://picasaweb.google.com/bernstmc/ForSaleUrbanFarm?feat=email# and it's public. Still some work weeding & such but that's more like fun than work.

Oh, no-- this is our house that we're trying to sell. But maybe I misunderstood. The house is 2300 sq.ft. and we have 1/3 acre BUT we lay claim to 1/2 acre. The cool part is-- at least if you like the city & the country-- we are only 10 minutes from downtown Cincinnati & less than that to the University of Cincinnati campus. Just hoping to find someone who likes "country livin'" in the city! Have you all seen this video of a wedding dance? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-94JhLEiN0 It's hilarious. Daughter Kat & her beau inform me that they will not be doing this at their wedding. I'm relieved. But the video did make me smile. Isn't someone here getting married soon?

Marcia ~ I like your photos! I'm one of those people who like urban/country living! I knew you would understand the story of the black enamel paint applied to all the interior trims, etc., because of your experience with the leaded glass! My folks were into restoring beautiful, old properties and my mom was a furniture refinisher/reupholsterer. They taught us kids a love for beautiful things. So it always makes me sad to see "modernization" that ruins the loveliness & integrity of an old place. Oh, don't get me wrong, I do believe in plumbing and adequate heating/cooling of a home. Just please let's do all that in as unobtrusive a manner as possible! And for heaven's sake, stop closing up all the fireplaces!!!! Why do you think there is a security risk when your home is being showed? Doesn't your Realtor take all usual precautions? Who is keeping the keys, or are they in one of those locked boxes on the doorknob? It sounds a little like you have a case of the jitters, my friend. Soon, when this place is sold and the new one purchased and you are on your way, you'll be well past all of this. Meantime, we're here to listen & care & encourage. Yes, Chermoni is getting married in 2010. Merme

Hello everyone!!! I have missed you all.I am back from our vacation.--got back late Saturday night. But until now, I have been busy with all the catching up around home stuff. I was very unhappy when we got to our "cabin" and thee was NO cumputer. The promotion definately said there was a computer. But oh well---This was for my 30th Anniversary so I should have been spending time with the DH anyway, so I did. I had a great time---the Smoky Mountains were beautiful, as was the cabin. We really needed the rest.---First time I ever slept in a featherbed.

Hi Carol and welcome home..... Vacations are wonderful things ... but always good to get back.. I got my house clean finally today- so many interupptions... just now got done... good thing they got delayed - storming here and raining on them on their way from Canarado... we are supposed to get rain and be cool all week... wierdest July ever.. Well better go put rugs back in bathroom and fold the last load of towels- then I am taking a shower and getting into some pajamas to wait up for them ... Nana

Nice to see you back on, Carol Jean. I'm glad you had a good time away. It is okay if it takes a bit to settle in again, I always think.
