Best of Four. I know we are not supposed to talk about controversial things here. I am glad we don't. I agree that obesity is sad. But it's sad b/c people are not taking responsibility for themselves. It's not like it was when we were kids. It's not a secret that eating poorly is not good for you. If you can Facebook and Twitter and Whatnot, you can figure out that a steady diet of McD's might not be optimal.

Bob Wills said it best:

Rolly Polly, eatin' corn & taters, hungry every minute of the day.

Rolly Polly, gnawin' on a biscuit; long as he can chew it it's o.k.

He can eat an apple pie, and never even bat an eye, he likes everything from soup to hey.

Roly Polly, Daddy's little fatty, bet he's gonna be a man someday.

Rolly Polly, scrambled eggs for breakfast, bread & jelly 20 times a day.

Rolly polly, eats a hardy dinner. It's takes lots of strength to run & play.

Pulls up weeds & does the chores, runs both ways to all the stores, he works up an appetite that way.

Rolly Polly, Daddy's little fatty, bet he's gonna be a man some day.

Problem is, today's Rolly Pollys ain't eating corn & taters & biscuits (Harde's doesn't count), and they're not having scrambled eggs for breakfast, and they are sure nuf not doing chores and running both ways, much less pullin weeds.

And yet, they become little fatties. And are expect to be men someday.

Is sleeping in the tub an option?

Jeepers, I didn't mean that to be controversial. I was just meaning to give info that I heard today. I'm one of the worst. The whole time they were talking about how bad refined sugar is for us I was sipping on my Pepsi. I took my own because I figured they'd be serving juice, coffee and water.

Cheryl, do you have regular floor fans?

Floor fans would be the way to go. You can get the 20 inch box fan that stands free anywhere for under $20. Even with a/c I run several box fans to keep the air moving better. Plus they create white noise for better sleeping and masking of other sounds.

I don't believe there is a redemptive value in needless suffering. So my motto is... if you are too hot, cool down. If you are too cold, try to warm up! lol

Childhood obesity is far more complex than simply eating too much McD's. We've been dealing with the issue in our home for the last 7 years and I can guarantee you it has NOTHING to do with McD's, Burger King, Wendy's, Arby's, Hardee's or KFC.

My beautiful son struggles manfully each and every day with his weight control issues. Sometimes he has remarkable success and other times he has heartbreaking setbacks.

We do not even have fast food restaurants in our town, so visiting one is a rarity... a special occasion.

He does not sit and stare at a TV, video game screen or computer monitor all day. He is an outdoor boy; always has been. In fact, we bought him his first PS2 at the advice of a pediatric psychiatrist specializing in eating disorders as well as his pediatric weight control gastroenterologist. The dance game known as DDR has proven to be remarkably successful to help sedentary kids get moving. Unfortunately, Maxi would like his much better if he could take it outside! lol

Unfortunately, there are no easy answers to this often discouraging and downright heartbreaking problem.

Well, geez. once again, I missed all the drama. I'm too tired to read back about the contriversal stuff. glad it's over though.
I did some rearranging in the living room today and now we have some ROOM again! clap the kidos drug out their DDR, and we have been playing it. great fun. my bad foot doesnt care for it much, but if I remember to put on my tennis shoes before I start playing it's not so bad. I whipped the kidos on 'can't touch this'! bop

yes, those box fans are the best. not only do they circulate a lot of air, but you just can't beat the white noise. I can hardly sleep with out the hum of a fan, even if it isn't blowing on me! thumbup

good to see your still up, merme. you must be feeling alright for this wednesday. thumbup

ok....just when you think you know someone.???
I hit the library today - took the movies back and got a couple more. I was in a big rush and ended up getting a documentary on bee's, and the movie Grease. when I got back to the house, the kids were restless and hubby was sleeping in the recliner. I popped in grease and believe it or not, it was holding the kids attention. while I was busy rearranging the living room I kept chuckling to myself at the reaction hubby would have when he woke up and saw Grease (a stupid whimpy girly 70's musical!) of all things, playing on the tv. about half way through the movie his eyes opened and it was a dialoge part. he was making comments and laughing here and there, and I thought he's talking in his sleep once they start singing he will fully wake up and throw a manly 'what the heck are yall watching fit'. NOPE! once they did break into song he was fully awake singing along and talking about 'back in the day'. haha
and after 17 years you think you know someone.....
too funny!

It is very hot and quite STEAMY here today. A storm passed through last night and another one early this morning. Enough to wet everything; not enough to change the trend.

I've been to see my primary doc and back again. My girl went to the bank & got groceries while I was seeing the doc. I do not get to see my primary too often and I really like this guy! He is very, very good. As smart as he truly is, he speaks to me so that I always understand him. He doesn't just toss his fine education in my face. No matter what is going on with me, I always leave his office feeling more hopeful and encouraged.

Good stuff, that.

I got another letter from Maxi today. He told me to forget about the previous letter he sent when he told me he was unhappy & wanted to come home. When I spoke with the director that day she told me that he'd been exceptionally tired when he wrote that last letter and that over the weekend he'd gotten caught up on his sleep and seemed to have perked up. I guess she was right.

But I am looking forward to his return on Saturday!

One of our friends lives 5 miles from the camp. In the past, she has picked him up & brought him down halfway. This year, she has decided to bring him down the entire way which makes it MUCH easier for me, not having to come up with a driver to make the run to Brunswick and get lunch for so many people! thumbup She said she'd stop for lunch on the way back, so they are expecting to be here by about 1:30.

Maxi's little friend Dom stopped by again today to double check (again) that Maxi is really coming home on Saturday. He is psyched because he is one of the few kids who got a postcard from Maxi since he's been away.

haha

It has felt like a very long four weeks to me, Jess. He had asked me with his whole very heart if he might have this extra week this year, and so I did my best to give it to him. But it was hard to have him gone quite so long!

It is very tough that we cannot keep our children forever by our sides, so of course I cringe whenever I think about him going off to college! One wants the children to do well and to succeed as independent adults, but letting go can't be easy.

So I know we are going to have a rollicking good reunion this weekend!
