anyone hanging for a while?
I'm gonna try and stay up about another half hour or so. I've been waking up at four each morning.

I used to love getting up before the sun. I felt proud to have all my coffee in me and showered up before the sun came up. now, I'm thinking getting up WITH sun would suit me better, but my eyes still pop open very early when I don't want them to.
anyone have any exciting weekend plans?

Cindy--I think your idea sounds much better than my plans--perhaps I'll come and join you.
My plans are going to an "Open House" Baby shower for a family member.
I have never heard of an "Open House" for a baby shower before, have you ???

I am also trying to get my DH to call our friends & see if they want to 'do" something on saturday night. Wish me luck!!!

the only thing I can think of that would be worse than having to go to a baby shower is having to go to something called an 'open house' baby shower. what will yall be doing? what's the point?

howdy, cindy! good to see you on.
you could more than likely outrun me wheelchair races. when I busted up my foot a few years back I would wheel myself around in one to get around quicker. quicker it was, but some of our door frames will never be the same. if you see someone tumped over in a ditch during the wheel chair races this weekend, or wrapped around a mail box....it'd be me.

and to answer your question, Cricket--

I have no idea what the point is, unless it is to avoid having to rent a hall, make a bit of food & work out some games to play??---I don't k now why they didnt send out announcements & say, please send gifts---- why lol

and I forgot to mention--up until the invitation came in the mail, I had NO idea this child was going to be born.... We could not even look up & see what the mom was registered for as all I know of the last name is the first letter---- rolz

fun rolz

my dogs are making me crazy! my two female litter mates are no longer patient with our new male rescue pup. the girls are labs, and the boy is a lab-healer mix. big dogs, right? they do fine outside, but inside they fight - and I do mean blood. and they are having 'accidents'. they've been outside all day. I decided to let them in for an hour or so and the fighting is already starting up again! I want to put them all outside for the night, but the little ditchy barks his fool head off out there! I'd put the girls out and leave him inside, but I think he's the one having the 'accidents'. what to do??? madd yikes
they are all outside now, and he's already barking at the moon...the deer....the fireflies....????

well I feel sorry for you---I havd that problem with my grabdpuppies---I ignored it and now they hardly ever bark when they are o ut in the pen.. Our "puppy" (11 yr old Dante) is an easy one--if he does something yo udo not like, you "raise" your voice & tell him to stop & he does--I am aware we are lucky.

I hope you come up with a solution--but I am betting they stop barking in while--- prayers

Some people use The Open House format for showers to make it easier on the guests to attend. If you send out an invitation that says "the party is at 1" then people with other commitments can't attend. If, however, you say "Open House from 1 to 5" then people know they are free to arrive at 3. Likewise with guests who could be there at 1 but must be somewhere else by 2; they would be able to just drop by for a short while. No one is expected to stay for the entire event or all arrive & leave at the same exact times.

I would rather have barking than fighting w/ blood, Cricket!

And my weekend plans call for as much work outdoors as the heat and my son will allow me to do. Then the usual laundry and such.
Tomorrow is Ted's last day of school until August 25th. So he will be my best friend and constant companion for a few weeks.

Well, Carol. If it is as Merme says, it means you don't have to stay forever. I like that a lot. And as far as a gift, it will need to be a generic baby gift if there is no registry. I have never looked at a baby registry. And these days for me it is mostly cash gifts. I will let the parents choose. I might tuck the cash in a clear baby bottle or something.

--I am staying up late doing my laundry tonight so as to avoid the weekend laundry detail, Tina----Hopefully all the "yard work" that I think I wlll have is to water--and if it rains like they are promiseing, I wll not have to do even that!!! clap

OOOHHHHH, I get the open house thing now merme. actually, explained that way, it sounds pretty good.

I came up with a plan for my derlick canines! they are staying inside...cause I just can't stand a barking-at-nothing-dog throughout the night. but, each will go into a room with a closed door. that way we'll know who is having 'accidents'. I betcha there won't BE any accidents cause they'll know, we'll know who did it! some might think dogs aren't that smart, but I dissagree!

Tina, often I prefer to buy what i want to buy--but I had no i dea waht this girl had or liked--so a regisatry would have been nice. I eneded up picking up somethin in the price range I had decided to spend, & adding the gift receipt to the card.--and yes My MIL & I already have plans to go out & eat after we drop by for a bit.

and I like the idea of money in a clear baby bottle--I am going to remember that!!!!!

diapers or wipes are always a safe and welcoming gift!
avoid the 'newborn or size 1' diapers since they don't stay in those sizes long and go for a size 2 or 3.

no, the diaper suggestion was a good one. I have done that before--it has been ahile since I have been to a baby shower is all. I appreciate the reminder.

and yes you are right---it could be a bit of a grind if things did not go "just so". This may turn out to be a "Good Thing" lol

Well, I have no real plans for the weekend. I may work on my quilt some, and do some cooking and baking. It'd be nice to have a couple of meals already cooked for the next work week. (geezzz....when did I turn into such a suzy homemaker????) maybe when the weather cools off enough to think straight, I'll feel like doing something exicting???? lol

My laundry is entirely complete but I purchased new detergent today because I KNOW Maxi will be dragging his laundry bag home... stuffed FULL! lol Not to mention the sheets & blankets & wet swim trunks and whatnot to launder!

Way to go, Cricket! Controlling dogs is a very good thing.

I always think it is so fun to shop for a baby shower. Wish I were going to one soon!

A very fun baby shower my family did once for my sister Nancy/Wildwoodflower.

Nancy lived in PA near most of our family. including our oldest sister, Penny, but then while she was pregnant, she moved to Ohio to be near me & our other sister.

So Penny threw a baby shower in absentia for Nancy at home in PA & invited all her local friends. They did the whole thing... food & games & decorations and everyone brought gifts. They also spoofed Nancy by stuffing their shirts so they'd all look pregnant & Penny took pictures.

Afterwards, Penny packed up a gigantic gigantic box... all the gifts from the shower, the decorations, some snacks that would travel well and a pile of pictures, with the most believable "pregnant" women on top.

When the box arrived in OH, our sister Ro threw Nancy a second shower. We made up some fresh food and opened the box. Instant party! lol

When Nancy saw the first photo, she said "Oh! I didn't know she was pregnant too!" Then with the second one, she was "huh?" The third one was an old lady & she got the joke. So of course, we all had to stuff our clothes too and take pictures! So Nancy wasn't the only big-bellied woman in her life at the time... and she had photos to prove it!

Can't believe that was 26 years ago already!

I guess I'm hitting the sack, guys.
I'll be thinking how lucky I am that I DON"T have to go to any kind of shower this weekend.

I keep telling Ditchy, our rescue pup, he's SO very lucky that he's so darn cute cause if he wasn't I'd stick him right back in the culvert we got him from! haha ....then he looks at me with those sad eyes like he knows just exactly what I"ve said.

night night, safe away - O-pal's o'mine! wavy

Good very early morning. I'm up but I think I will be going back to bed soon. 3:30 is much to early to start a day.
I need to enlarge the font a little bigger than usual with the new columns down each side. But I can manage.
