A few months ago I decided to plant some potato pieces in one of my porch containers. My friends laughed at me and said nothing would grow from an old potato! i explained what my mom had told me. they still didn't Believe even after leafs came up.

Well, today I dug up my container and found 4 new potatoes!

Now my friends are not laughing!

Here is a picture of us kids on the porch. Me with my potatoes.

The smallest kid in the picture is my friend Dom. When he saw the new potatoes being dug up he said YOU SHOULD TRY THAT WITH MONEY, MAXI!!!

lol

Very cool, Maxi! That is kind of exciting for you. And don't we all wish it would work with money?

Yes, I think so! lol But when young Dom said it, he sounded like a believer! I really had to chuckle.

Oh to be so young!

He decided he wanted his potatoes for breakfast.

So, I sliced them very thin & fried them up to go with his eggs.

Yummy! (I had a bite, too)

Great picture Maxi! I hope you enjoyed your first potato harvest! Next time try some sweet potatoes if you like them - I did that a few years ago - they grew a very pretty green vine, and I got lots of potatoes in a small planter!

By the way... Maxi reminds me so much of my son't friend, Chuck! They met in high school and are still great friends, 12 years later and living back here where they grew up.

Lynne ~ I read your post to Maxi. He was fascinated at the thought of trying sweet potatoes. Thanks for the idea. And he enjoyed hearing that Brian and Chuck have been friends for so long. He always thinks that sort of thing is cool, when people stick together.

Nana it amazes me sometimes... Maxi is surrounded by a particularly unlearned group of boys who never believe him until he PROVES what he is saying! After all this time, you'd think they'd start taking his word for it! But sometimes I think they do secretly believe in him -- otherwise why would he be their first choice for hanging out with? -- and just enjoy his efforts at demonstration! I think they all just like "show & tell" and not just the "tell" part! lol

so glad to hear that Maxi tried and DID grow potatoes. And I bet his harvest tasted very good indeed!!!

Has he ever tried growing other veggies in a pot? Like perhaps lettuce or spinach???

With fall coming on they would be a good fall crop to try.
