I am growing corn in pots on my deck, with the intention of manually pollinating. The stalks are 5 to feet tall and have lovely tassels. Some of the tassels are even giving off their pollen dust already. Trouble is, there is no sign of any silks even starting!

I'm afraid the pollen will be gone by the time the silks appear - or even that the silks will never come!
Can I gather the pollen in a paper bag now? Should I refrigerate it?

The corn is Early Golden Bantam.

I am going to mix some bone meal and organic granular fertilizer into my manure tea and give them a heavy dose - I'm hoping it's just a nutrient issue and I still have time.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!
:)

Corn like to eat and eat. I think the pots on the deck my not be the best spot for GB in my opinion. Best of luck!
