I'm sticking my neck out again and saying it looks like one of the kalanchoes. The blooms open would be a help.

^ i agree, looks like a kalanchoe (the florist type people buy as potted plants)

Oh, I've seen the flower on other people's plants - they're yellow, usually, but not like kalanchoe's flowers.

could it be cushion spurge/japanese spurge?

Actually, not . . . I have japanese spurge. Don't know about cushion spurge though . . . maybe.
