Didn't have to lift a finger to move everything up five flights of stairs...thank God for the 1000+ movein volunteers!

My personal little balcony...more like greenhouse. There's a window at the bottom that opens. Scared the heavens out of me at first, no screen and my plants in the 4" could probably kill someone if they fell down.
So far, the occupants include: 3 Cannibal Tomatoes 1 Madagascar Palm 1 Jade Plant 1 Mother of Thousands and 1 pot of her kids (Bryophyllum tubiflora) 1 tropical tree seedling (forgot the name...something along Poinacea...)

Great Kenny. I do know you are going to be working hard and get very busy. But don't forget us, please. Any after pics? I mean after everything is pushed into its various positions?

In his other thread with links to his school, Kenny did say he was getting a single. I would like to see his room as a finished product but I'm sure he is deep into his academics already. It is so fun to watch people grow.

Kenny - do you have a single room? That would be fantastic! How terrific that you have a place to grow some plants - WOW!
Much good luck with your studying, and don't forget to add a measure of fun too while you are there!
psssst - Kenny - did you see my question about whether you had a single room?
Oops sorry, guess I missed it lol yup I do have a single
I've been trying to log in every morning to see what's happening. I've had 3/5 of my lectures today, so 2 more to go. I promised finished room pics soon...i did laundry last night so there're tshirts and stuff hanging all over the place

Congrats, kenny, that room looks awesome, how great to have a single AND a little greenhouse, you must be psyched! I see cooking utensils in one pic, do you have a hotplate or use of kitchen facilities? Did you post anywhere what your classes are? Any Botany, Horticulture, Ecology? You'll ace any of those, no doubt about it. Have fun, and keep posting.
It's actually really impratical to be cooking because I have to get to the other side of the building to do, but just in case I feel up to it Because I'm first year, the classes Im taking are just the same old things: physics, bio, chem, calculus. I'm doing Latin as an elective. I've heard there's a 'Science of Gardening' and one on micropropagation/tissue culture which sounds really cool! There are lots of hort classes here; we're the largest agriculture facility in all of Canada :) They were also giving out complimentary spider plants instead of lanyards like the other schools do

I'm thinking that I would choose a small microwave if they are allowed. And then as a second choice a rice cooker. When I was looking up rice cooker recipes online I found a million where people had fed themselves cheaply all through college. They turn themselves off which is a major bonus if you fall asleep or get called away. And there is no limit as to what you can steam in them. I love your room, Kenny. It looks comfortable and easy to live in. I bet it gets messier before it gets better. Any dreams to make it even better?

about the meals---my DD and her friends would use either a rice cooker or a crock pot---But they were not really allowed to cook in thier rooms.
---and as long as it is being talked aboute---when you paid your tuition for the semester--did it include meals at the cafeteria ?? If so--what my DD used to do is if they missed a meal or so they would go in and buy the small boxes of cereal, bottled milk & juice & take it back to their rooms so they woukld have a snack or a hurry up breakfast if the were crunched for time or needed to use the eating time to study.
If you do not have the option of boxed cereal, you could buy the cereal of choice, leave it dry and take it out of the cafeteria and put it in a lidded container or a zip top bag to keep it fresh until needed.
and I see you have a fridge so you would be able to store the milk & juice safely.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
Tuition and bits and stuff comes to about $16000 less a $2000 scholarship (not much but still better than nothing). I have a $1200 loan from the government, and about $3500 in grants. Everything's included but textbooks: meal plan, dorm, bus pass, health insurance, internet, and tuition.
I can't cook in my room, and they don't allow hotplates nor microwaves. There is a microwave in the lounge, and if I need hot water, I do have an electric kettle that I use in the lounge (takes about 2 minutes for coffee ) The lounge is about ten stairs down from my room which really isn't bad.
Carol, I have brought a big box of corn flakes when I moved in but haven't gotten around to eating it yet. I can pick up groceries on my meal plan in the cafe, but they're about twice what I'd pay if I went to the supermarket across the street. We can use our meal plan at restaurants around town, so I guess at the end of the year, any body and everybody hosts and is going to be invited to a pizza party or what not to finish off the balance
The arboretum had this annual plant sale today. You'd be surprised at how fast seniors can run! They literally were running into the field to get plants, faster than me!
