I'm hoping the upcoming weekend is nice so I can split a few things and get rid of some mint!! I didn't realize how invasive that stuff is!!! I have a bank that needs covered so I think I'll replant it there!! I'm going to try my hand at saving some seeds, I think some of my plants have some--I'm pretty new to this haha!! I have a beautiful dahlia, do I have to dig up the bulbs?? I'm zone 5.

you may want to ask your dahlia question as a separate topic. There is a better chance of getting an answer that way. I don't know the answer.

Yes you will have to dig the bulbs before frost. Store in a cool, dry, dark place.

You can dig the bulbs as well as take off the seeds.
I always take seeds only.........

Love them

Fall weather here today. It's great. A little cool but not windy like yesterday. This is a great time of year.

Tomorrow, if it's not raining, I'm going to clean up the vege garden spots and if there's time work on the flower garden. I'm sort of sad not to use the flower spot next year because I know I'll loose a lot of stuff that reseeds but I think I really need to change things up, eco system wise anyway.

My plan is to plant a cover crop to try and keep stuff from growing there that isn't supposed too. If anything does pop up I will move it.

What are you using......Rye

Neighbor does put rye on hers yearly. And mows it like grass till next year.

I did it a couple times, but it was too cold to mow and the grass got about 4 foot tall before it was dry enough to plow it.

You can mow yours any time.......
Your a good farmer.

Tonight I weeded my small flower bed in front, moved a few wild violets around and dug up some purple snow crocus. Then I planted 2 20 count bags of mixed variety giant crocus. I have 1, 25 count bag of Lady Killer Snow Crocus left to plant and the 15-20 purple snow crocus that I dug up to plant----

at least I have gotten started..... shots

Barb, I have some pink & white coneflowers just about ready to bloom---for the first time. and then I have many many buds on my rose of Sharon---so you are not alone.... shots

my 14 x 4 flower bed in back is still in full bloom----not to mention my pineapple sage has really taken off bloom wise in the last week or so. I think my flowers like cool weather also.

I walked to the vege garden this afternoon and I've got tomatoes, cukes and bell peppers on the vine. Guess I won't be doing much cleaning up until they get finished.

no you will not---

I too have a good number of green tomotoes, and some chives. Bless those chives-----they have survived thru several years at the farm----2 or 3 seasons in the basement living in a flower pot, after we moved-- and now up in my raised garden with no one much to care for them----I guess they must like me... why

I am done raking for the day. It is hard to keep raking down a cliff of more than 45 degrees And about 15 foot tall. (but better than raking UP a cliff) So my muscles and back get tired fast. I'll have to do something else this afternoon. Clean the chimneys probably.

so today in some lovely fall weather I planted teh last of my crocus bulbs (they were the lady Killer snow crocus. and then I also planted the purple snow crocus that I had dug up the other night when I was planting my mixed bunch of Giant crocus.

if I had of realized that there was no "stripped" snow crocus I could have ordered the vernus. But since I waited so long I had to go and buy my bulbs, so I had to settle for the mix, so I could get at least some of the vernus.

Now I cannot wait for them all to bloom----- rolz I am anxious to see how it all will look.

PS: I also planted some purple coneflower seeds. they are still from the ones my DD Valarie brought home with her one time when she was 15.---It is the principle of it all now--I cannot let these particular flowers die out.

I never did get to those chimneys today. My son was needy and I catered this afternoon. But I am pretty happy with the raking I did get done.

I hired my husbands out of work niece to work in my yard. She came yesterday and she got a lot done and did a really good job. Only thing is that she's unreliable. She was supposed to work all week but so far only came yesterday.

Why is that dodge? We should be able to have everything. Don't cha think?

Crystal didn't come yesterday but says she's coming tomorrow. I don't know what she's thinking. Sooner or later her unemployment will run out and she lives alone so how will she pay the rent? Not my problem I know but I do wonder how her mind works.

OKI, so it is NOT gardening but Rod & I painted a few areas yesterday. We were so lucky the weather co operated with us. I painted our mail box and its wooden post. Rod painted teh trim areound the front door and around the back door to the garage. he tehn also painted the back door to the garage. I came along after him and touched up areas (at his request). Then I got to clean up everything--- why

next we have to wash down the siding and clean out the garage---gee I have to think about that--sounds like work to me----

Carol Jean, what color did you paint your mailbox?

It's raining here today so I'll be working in the house rather than out. I bought some pansys Saturday that I need to plant but they will wait.
