I always felt tall. I grew up a head taller than the rest of my class. But I stopped growing at 12. And I feel so average now at 5' 7 1/2". Well maybe that tall. People shrink with age and I am certainly aging.
So I figured I'd measure and I was only 5' 7".

now I am 5' 4".
My compression fracture took me down 1/2 an inch all at once.---and they found an old one when they were doing x-rays...oh well such is life, huh???

I think 5 7 is tall too after all I barely hit 5 ft even- and am probably really shorter.... today I feel about and inch and a half-- I coughed all night- vicks myself... coughed more- sat up as much as I could ... first think this morning I called doc office- I have strep or flu- cause the kids have had both .. Joseph is really sick and so is Matthew... they are going to urgent care today after moms get off work... I woke Joe up early and told him to call in to work so he could do the boys and Mom... I am trying to stay as far away as I can from everyone....it's 77* today and I am freezing- drinking hot tea and honey... this could have waited a couple more days to hit me.... as soon as I get back from the doc I am going back to bed and staying there...
See you all on the flip side- be back when I feel human again..

I'm telling you Sherri, this stuff is killer. It comes and hangs around forever. Sore throat, cough, headache, stomach ache, then it starts over again. Rest as much as you can and even more. I think it's the only thing to get you through this.

Snow had been predicted for today, but we didn't get any. I think it stayed inland. I'm not quite ready for it yet.

Our ride for his birthday party laser tag event canceled, so we have to postpone it for a week. I feel badly for the kid.

I'm starving, so I'm going to make some grits.

It was much cooler today, I'm not sure it reached 80*. But it is to warm back up again. Hard for me to imagine snow yet.

Good morning, all.

It is 40 here this morning. Maxi had his favorite diet hot cocoa before heading out to the bus with some Goldfish and a banana in his pocket. His new bedding is so cozy, he doesn't ever want to get up now, so he was short on time today.

Me, I've got lots of running around to do today.

I only get 1 cup---DH drinks most the pot--leaves me exactly 1 cup--- why
I don't think I'll complain--after all he could drink the whole pot.....and since I do not feel like making more--if I feel the need, I can always move on to tea.....

Tina how are you feeling???

Oh, 'morning all! wavy

Carol, Thank you. Though not completely recovered I am much, much better.
I don't much care for instant coffee. I used to drink tea first thing in the morning until I got a bad stomach flu once. I haven't much wanted tea since although I can drink green tea on occasion and do. So as it is just me or just me and Jonni I have moved to coffee bags. A cup of hot water and plunk that bag in there. No trying to keep a whole pot hot or wasting a lot of electricity on it.
I am home. I took Ted to school, checked the rental and then stopped at Lowe's on the way home.
I am wanting to make a raised bed on the one side of my house. I had one there but the wood eventually rotted away and now it is just a hump of dirt. I don't want to use wood again but not sure exactly how I want to edge it. I know I want to extend it though. I don't want to use bricks, rocks or anything like that. I was thinking something commercial-tech like expanded metal or rolled sheet metal or something. So I've been shopping.
But I'm not coming up with the brain storm I'm looking for.

Lynne: I am so sorry you are not feeling well--I hope you will be back in shape sooner rather than later.... kissie

ya know Tina--I have coffee bags (Or I did) in the house someplace. I need to look them up---but as of right now, I am drinking warmed green tea--I say warmed because I brew it and chill it. I try to drink a quart of it a day.
so instead of drinking this cup over ice, I put it in a cup and I am drinking it warm---although I really like to drink the spiced teas when drinking hot tea but hey this works roo.

I am glad you are feeling better today---

About your raised bed--both my veggie garden and my flower bed are raised. and they are both made of wood. The flower bed is treated, the veggie garden of course is not. Rod says he will just redo them as needed.--although he has passed comment that he was going to have a guy he knows come out and bring some dirt for back where my veggie garden is and raise the whole area---& this will do away with my raised bed for it.--(me thinks he is getting tired of weedeating around it.... rolz) but oh well whatever works--so long as I can plant then so be it----

About a metal bed--- tonight, I will ask the welder in Rod what he thinks might work, ok?? although I will say he has not offered me any such thing.

before all of these operations & such began I was going to make a raised flower bed on the north side of my house. I had intended to buy landscaping blocks---the tall kind, and then just fill in, lasagna style, with whatever amount of soil I needed-----perhaps one day----we shall see...

It was 48 here this morning but has warmed up nicely. We're going to see how long we can go without turning the heat on Lynne. Our heating bill is never that much but since we're not even there during the day I think we could do with less. This is my idea so we'll see how Johnny can deal with it.

Tina and Carol Jean, let me know what you guys come up with as far as raised beds. Since I'm moving my vege garden this year I'd like to try raised beds.

My daughter has a 2 cup coffee maker. It doesn't take much to make more if you want it.

Thanks Carol!

Sheri - it's a whopping 59 degrees in the house now - cloudy day out so the sun is not warming the house up through the windows even.

Although I am not a coffee or tea drinker, I had some of Brian's organic peppermint tea with honey yesterday, and a cup this morning. It's supposed to aide in digestive problems, and I do think it's helping. I am much better than the last 2 days. Unfortunately both my guys seem to be having stomach problems today now.

I would be careful using metals for raised beds - they can leach into the soil as well as treated woods. So chose your metals carefully.

sure will let you know Sheri. But did you read what I have now for a veggie garden??? it is 4 years old and is still doing well.--

I have a 4 cup coffeemaker, Sheri. But in reality it only makes 2, 8-oz mugs of coffee--I could bring that up I guess....

it is 57 in St Louis (where the temp from my computer comes from)--so it is very likely 55 or so here, as we are a bit further north. it is around 67 in the house--well in the hallway anyway lol

glad the tea is helping you , Lynne. sorry to hear about the guys---

about the metal bed--we shall see what Rod says, but perhaps that is why he did not suggest it for the veggie garden----and like I say the veggie garden's wood is not treated.

I may just make mine of wood. I have plenty of untreated 2X6's. And 4X4's I can cut down for posts. I was just wanting some curve to it all. And I want mine at least a foot tall. Where I want it is against the house so I will definitely have something to protect the house from water and mud and such. I am just free planning this stuff.

Sheri - This was our second attendance at a large group awards dinner at the Waldorf Astoria. I must say I am very unimpressed! Don't get me wrong - NACME raised a VERY nice huge sum of money for these very bright, minority students, but the dinner itself was for lack of a better word... "YUCK"! The appetizer had a funny taste and they did not have a choice for entree, but simply had very VERY blood red slabs of beef - I only eat very well done meat!!! potatoes were full of salt. Asparagus were good. LOL The waiters were not pleasant at all - I guess they've seen so many people packed into that room over their careers that they just don't care and proceed as robots. I had asked for an end cut of the beef and was told very flatly that it had already been given out.

The dessert was a tasty piece of cake, but by then, who cared? Most had left before it was served anyway.

Bill Cosby had just had cataract surgery, had to be escorted onto the stage, and is aging at 72. He had a few good lines, but for the most part droned on and on 'til he got back around to his point...

Again, I am very glad that the organization made a VERY large sum of money to help those students, and also extremely glad that Don's company paid our way at $1000 a plate!!! (NO that is NOT a typo!!!)

Due to the heightened terrorist alert, as we were about to enter the underground parking garage at the Waldorf, security made Don open his car trunk before we were allowed to proceed into the garage. Now I ask you... don't we look like your average terrorists?!? LOL

A cousin of mine in NJ has a beautiful home on a lovely street, a pool in the yard, the whole 9 yards. Recently she went on vacation to Cape Cod & had a wonderful time. But when she got back, she noticed what sounded like a critter in her house! Thinking perhaps a squirrel had gotten in, she called an exterminator.

Guess what he found?

A RAT!!!

That's right, a rat!

My poor cousin freaked out!!!

She went to her son's house in a total panic. She said she can't live where there is a rat!

Her 5 year old grandson put his hands on both sides of her face and said "Do not be afraid, MomMom. A rat is an animal. Put it in a cage and bring it to me. I love animals and I will take care of it for you!"

The exterminator told her it is gone now but she is still creeped out. He explained that because of the unusual amount of rain they've had, the sewers have flooded and many rat nests have been washed away so they are turning up here and there in places they've never been before.

I think I would be creeped out also!!

Hi all,
A rat would keep me out too.... big time- when we lived in Juneau we stayed at a hotel the first couple nights we were there before out house was ready... being kids we went up and down in the elavator a lot--- for something to do...one time we went ot get in it there was a rat about the size of a cat just sitting there... of course that ended that game--- the desk people told us because its on the oceon there were a lot of wharf rats and no matter what they did they got on--- thing was huge... still creeps me out..
I am definintly sick- have strep for sure and maybe the flu too- if I didnt already have strep they would send me for blood tests to see if they can confirm the flu= my grandson was confirmed with H1N1 yesteray-- Carrie is taking Joseph in tomrrow- he probably has it... he is green! Jon went to the specialist today- they ruled out lupus- and said its not RA ... could still be gout even though the tests aren't showing it... he has bad liver tests,a high white count... they took more blood today for more tests and gave him a new med to try for 3 months... he thinks it may be a form of arthritis that affects the lower extremities... so at least we are getting some answers and hopefully meds that help...
Mom and all got off today... about 4 hours later than they planned... my sis didn't get her truck loaded as she said she would- so Joe and my son went over last nigth and took out what she had done- and reloaded it- made her finish packing her stuff... she hadn't even done her kitchen at all- it was all dirty and full of dog and cat hair=- Joe came home at 2 in the morning with an allergy atack- had to take his meds;she told us she had a carrier for the dog=- no carrier- so dog is looses in back of our Tahoe- told her to keep leash on her and fasten it to the hooks back there... Teresa told me she would have it detailed when they bring it back- I feel bad about sending my Mom back to that way of living but it's what she wants and I am just done fighting it all... she will be happy for as long as she has left I guess...
I am going back to sleep now- just took my cough meds so at least I can sleep I hope...

So sorry you're still sick Nana.

Merme, my daughter had her commode get stopped up one time and it was a huge rat that had someone gotten in the pipe and tried to go up through the commode. It was awful.

Sheri---the veggie garden (untreated lumber) is 8 ft by 10 feet---it is only 4 inches high. it has seen 5 summers, and is still going strong.
I have plenty of ground it was just so low that Rod thought I might not want my veggies to get drowned, so he made me the raised bed.

The flower bed--(Treated lumber) is 14 ft by 4 feet. It is 6 inches high.--I do not have the soil coming all the way up to the top--I thought that would help contain the flowers. why It is the third or 4th summer for it ??? it too i s doing well.

Tina---Rod said to try calling around to small welding shops, he did not mean the big corporate ones. if they do not have what you want, they will be able to order it for you.--OR they can also cut and weld either type to your specifications.(you will never know that they did this, I promise.)
He said it could likley be pricy, (unless you know someone), though. he also said it would eventually rust out, but then wood only lasts so long too. So either way would work.

I wish you all the best--you'll keep us informed right???

and I feel I must apologize to Merme--I didn't read back far enough to read about the "Rat" issue. yep that would creep me out as well. The little guy was cute, but hey---I am afraid I would just think where there is 1 there are likley more---I hope she can sleep well tonight.....and I hope they are ALL gone....

This probably isn't the place to chat about raised beds but nothing else is going on in here so I'm gonna...

So Carol Jean, if you plant say 20 tomato plants and squash and so on you have to either have 1 gigantic raised bed or several small ones. I've always planted my stuff straight into the ground and have had to fight the weeds. The only reason I can see for changing my plan is to try and keep the weeds out. Have you found your raised beds to be weedless?

The weather here is wonderful today, dry but wonderful. A little cool but not too cool and a little breeze. Wish I was outside.

Good morning, everybody!

We had rain last night and although it was frigid early this morning, the sun is out and shining to beat the band! It looks to be a beautiful day! YAY!

Another busy day underway and man dear, we are really looking forward to the weekend!!

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I'm looking forward to the weekend too. I'm participating at a yard sale tomorrow to benefit the music program at an elementary school. Like Lynne, I usually donate my stuff to the Goodwill here in Monroe but I've cleaned out stuff and am going to see if I can make a little cash. Evidentially during the budget cuts this principal decided not to hire for the music program at this particular school. Maybe someone retired and they didn't fill that spot. I thought music was a requirement. Shows what I know.
