I just recently became a new member. Newly retired and am trying to renew my interests in gardening and this time of year, in particular (house plants).
A friend gave me a piece of an aleo plant the other day and I placed it in water to see if it would sprout roots. Will this happen? Can I just plant it in cacti mix? What should I do? Any suggestions..

Welcome, Wayne. cactus mix would be best if this is an aloe. They don't do too well in too much water.

You can try. I have never heard of an aloe growing from a leaf cutting. Mostly they are propagated by dividing the pups (baby plants) they put out. But if it works for you let us know.

let the cutting dry before putting it in the soil! 1 day or so depending on how humid your air is (basically let it callous over).

would also suggest dusting it with some rooting hormone before going into the soil.

good luck!
