If there's one group of English- speaking people I struggle to understand it's the Scots, but I got the gist of that message!

Actually, you might feel the same way about us. It was funny the other day when our deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard visited some schools in Washington, and the kids asked her if we speak English in Australia. (Just between you and me, we don't all sound like Julia).

Paul tells me there are THREE different levels of Scottish. The heaviest, although pure English, is nearly impossible for a non-Scot to understand. Paul is fluent in all three dialects. He have me a Scottish-English Dictionary to translate. That's what I used to translate my comments into HEAVY Scottish.

you'd think no undies would be uncomfortable.

I'm sure people from other places wonder if we're speaking English here too.

Don't worry, you are all pretty understandable to us. But what is funny is when Americans try to do an Aussie accent- we can almost tell it's meant to be us, but it is hilarious! Anyway, I guess we've done some pretty bad American accents as well.

Hi dodge,

Thorn is becoming an expert on the Scots. I don't think kilts and haggis will take off in Tennessee though!

I'm sure your English is better than mine!

My daughter tasted Haggis and says it's not bad. I think kilts just might take off here in Tennessee. EVERYBODY, men and women seem to like them here. All it would take would be for ONE good looking, cool, BRAVE, young man to wear the FIRST one in public and within a month or two ALL men would be wearing them.

I've ACTUALLY been looking at a cotton duck "UTILITY" Kilt with large cargo pockets in my size, in a catalog for about $100.00. These are quite popular in Scotland.

Thorn, I think you just might be the right man for the job! And a new chain of McHaggis restaurants would be a huge success.

My neighbor wears the utility kilts with large cargo pockets. I still think they look funny. I'd rather see a dress kilt any day.
