I have a lot of polishing to do still, but I thought I ask for a little help in bug checking functioning of the gold menu bar just below the header. (if the menus don't open, javascript will have to be enabled on your browser) Right now I am mostly concerned about 'Forum' dropdown menu not playing nicely with the RSS feed in in the right column on different systems etc.. I'll be noting updates for you to test periodically, if you don't mind. Test PageThank you!

The drop downs all worked for me, Bill. At least the ones I clicked on, one or two of each category. I use firefox and the page doesn't quite 'fill' my screen the way this forum does. The 'feeds' are the scrolling messages on the top right? I don't have the whole little feed box available to read. The last word or so of each sentence is cut off. But it does scroll on its own and seems to work well.

I meant to check on this sooner, sorry for the delay. The forums menu is not cooperating on my system. The drop down menu drops down behind the feed box.

Not only have I not fixed the menu under the RSS issue, now I thoroughly messed up the drop downs... If I knew what I was doing, I might be dangerous... but I'm sure that James (and everyone else) have no worries about ever losing any web page business to me!

I think I've solved most (but not all) of the menu bar bugs, and I'm getting ready to add the menu to several other pages. I'd appreciate it if anyone would go and check out the menu bar on the test page again. The forums links still hide a tiny bit behind the RSS box but I think the sub links are sufficiently visible and functional. Does it work for you? Each menu item should be contained on a single line. Two liners trash the appearance. As you mouse over the main links, do you see any links in the drop downs that are too long for one line? My instructor said I should include arrows to indicate that there are additional links below the main bar, but I omitted them to make the bar shorter (so it didn't run above the side columns). Do you think new visitors will have trouble figuring out that there are drop down links? Do you like the colors and layout? Is the text easy to see and read? Any comments (good or bad) about any parts of the page? I sure appreciate your help! Thank you...

Every thing worked that I looked at..
Layout an colors were good. Only thing I didnt like was on the right where you put the red coloring for the words.. Not quick like the others.

I keep getting hung up on the words "menu" and "bar" in the same sentence... menu - is there stuffed potato skins or crab cakes on the appetizer menu? bar - Is it Happy Hour yet? It looks great to me.

Bill, I liked all that I looked at, which while I did not look at all, I did go thru quite a lot. The colors were pleasing, the font was of a good size to easily read, the drop down boxes worked well amd everything seemed to make sense & flow well.---And coming from one who could be a bit more computer savvy I figure that is a good thing, right???

Thank you! When I started this project, my intent was primarily to fix all my boo boos from 12 years ago, and to make the site navigation easier.... (and maybe start making a little more $$$ but that wasn't a priority) As I've moved slowly along I started getting curious (nervous?) about if I was even making any difference. Well.... no extra jingle in the pay envelope yet, but October has never paid well. However, I did some checking on my stats and traffic from the MSN search has increased by 400% in the past two months and Yahoooo is sending 300% more visitors. Uncle Google is still sending me 77% of my traffic, which has dropped a couple per cent, but they still send me the same number of visitors. I guess my efforts are a worthwhile thing, especially since I mostly was sitting like a bump on a log before I went back to Gnoming... Everyone here has been a great help for me, with encouragement and checking my work has been a real time saver for me, otherwise I might have given up by now. The menu bar has been driving me crazy, but last night I went back at it and finally got to install it on about 80 pages and when I looked back up from the computer it was light outside. I still don't know what I'm doing, but at least I've learned how to fake it a lot better!

Of course your efforts are a worthwhile thing----and are appreciated, of that I am sure. I am so glad that we have been of help. You help us so much it is good to be able to return the favor.. Keep at it until you are happy with everything, although remember, sleeping every once in awhile is a good thing.---- Keep up the good work!!!

After the menu bar... I tried (once) to set up a sidebar menu on the house plant page so the House Plant Profiles (about 50 profile pages so far, but I know there are a lot of profiles that aren't cataloged yet) would pop out from a button. Well, I think I need to skip that brain fart for now so I I made a baby page to accomplish it. What do you think? I will probably make several baby index pages as I move through at the speed of mud... unless there are any snags...

Bill: I love it-----Ease of use----- :thumbup I only tried out a few---- sorry but you see I got to engrosed in reading the info that I lost track of what I was doing. What I did try out worked like a charm, though. This format is wonderful----I can look to one place, see what I want to see and then go to it---when I am done with that one it is back to find a new item to check--perfect for me & others of my "skill" level--- :

Thank you! Would you like it better if I set it so each page opened in a new tab/window so the index stayed open under the page you are reading... or is that no biggie? When I collect more links for the index, I will add another column (wider) so there should be very little scrolling down or sideways. I keep finding pages that I forgot about long long ago.. entertains me sometimes... Its good that you are getting into rereading pages... there is a LOT of info there.. and lots more to unearth

Its good that you are getting into rereading pages... there is a LOT of info there.. and lots more to unearth it is no biggie unless it would be easier on you that way. I just like the fact that I can go back to one place and see what else there is that you have to offer--- I have known all along that the info was here--someplace--but now I can more easily find it--- --- As much as I hate to admit it, if it is too difficult for me, I often do not bother---So again thank you----why I even saw information on my orchids!!!!

I prefer to you the back button myself, and I know that some people tend to open and open and open and never close any until they have so many open it causes a crash... I'm not mentioning any bird's names...
